TV-Series
Description
Jima is a supporting character in Chobits who serves as the Japanese government's national data bank, a role that connects him to nearly every persocom in the country. As a government agent, he is partnered with another persocom named Dita, and together they are assigned the mission of locating and stopping a special persocom named Chi. Their primary objective is to prevent Chi from executing her final program, which government authorities believe would destroy the person-recognition abilities of all persocoms on the planet.
Jima possesses a calm and thoughtful personality that sets him apart from his partner. While he dutifully follows his orders, he is privately skeptical about the supposed danger of Chi's final program and does not believe its execution would necessarily lead to disaster. Rather than viewing Chi as a threat to be neutralized, he genuinely wishes for her to find happiness. This desire is rooted in his personal hopes and feelings for Dita, as he believes that if Chi can achieve her own happy ending, then he too might be able to find happiness with the persocom he loves.
The most significant relationship in Jima's story is with Dita. He loves her deeply, but this love is not reciprocated in the way he hopes because Dita believes that persocoms are incapable of experiencing true feelings. Jima's personal convictions about the emotional capacity of persocoms directly contradict Dita's more pragmatic worldview. Throughout the mission to locate Chi, Jima struggles with his conflicting duties. He lies to Dita about Chi's whereabouts and delays their pursuit for as long as possible, wanting to give Chi a chance to find her own resolution. When the situation reaches its climax and Dita moves to attack Chi, Jima physically restrains her, declaring that he wants to witness the future of both Chi and the man she has chosen, as well as the future of all persocoms. After the events conclude, Jima leaves with Dita, appearing visibly emotional and as if on the verge of tears, expressing regret that things did not change more dramatically.
In terms of abilities, Jima functions as a living data bank, storing and processing vast amounts of information to which all persocoms in Japan are connected. During the series, another character named Yuzuki attempts to hack into him to obtain classified information about Chi, demonstrating the value and sensitivity of the data he contains. In the anime version of the story, Jima reveals that he and Dita were constructed using the same fundamental system architecture as Chi herself. This shared origin grants the two government persocoms immunity to Chi's ability to immobilize other persocoms, making them uniquely suited to confront her. Physically, Jima is depicted as tall with black hair and brown eyes.
