Description
Arthur Beresford is a prodigious knight from the Kingdom of Freesia, who plays a significant role as a close ally and protector to the crown princess, Pride Royal Ivy. He is the son of Roderick Beresford, the renowned captain of the kingdom's knights known as the Knight Without Scars, and his wife Clarissa. Arthur holds the position of captain in the Eighth Company of Knights.

In terms of appearance, Arthur is a young man of tall stature, noted to be 185 centimeters tall, with silver hair that he typically wears long and tied back, and deep blue eyes. His features are often compared to his father, whom he increasingly resembles as he matures.

Arthur's personality is characterized by his honesty, sincerity, and a fiery, expressive nature that he shares with his mother. He is known for being mouthy and direct, not hesitating to speak his mind or call others out when he finds them suspicious. Despite this straightforwardness, he possesses great empathy and a strong sense of justice. He can struggle with formal speech but is deeply respected and well-liked by his peers in the knighthood. His fundamental nature is to be a loyal and true friend.

The core of Arthur's motivation stems from his desire to be a knight, a dream he nearly abandoned. As a child, he discovered his unique special ability was making plants grow quickly and abundantly. While he was excited by this power, others saw it as a disappointment and useless for a knight, which crushed his aspirations and led him to consider becoming a farmer instead. However, witnessing the determination and actions of Princess Pride Royal Ivy inspired him to embrace his ambition once more. After Pride saves his father's life, Arthur pledges his sword and his family name to dedicate his life to protecting her, vowing to ensure she never goes down the wrong path. This promise becomes the driving force behind his actions.

Arthur's most notable ability is a mysterious and powerful skill. On the surface, it manifests as the power to accelerate plant growth, which he used for farming. However, this is a cover for its true nature: the ability to heal all illnesses. This power is considered one of the most potent in the kingdom, but Arthur keeps it a secret, letting others believe it only affects plants for his own safety and to avoid misunderstanding. Beyond this unique ability, he is also a highly skilled swordsman and soldier, trained from a young age by his father. He is described as being fiery and expressive in his fighting style, in contrast to the more brooding and calculative nature of his close friend, Stale Royal Ivy.

Key relationships define Arthur's journey. His relationship with his father, Roderick, is complex and forms much of his backstory. While Arthur deeply admires his father and his accomplishments as a knight, their relationship was initially tense, with Arthur resenting the pressure and expectations placed upon him. This tension was exacerbated by Arthur's frustration over his seemingly useless ability. Despite their conflicts, they care for each other deeply. The death of Roderick in an ambush is a traumatic turning point in the original game's timeline, leading Arthur down a dark path of vengeance. However, in the main story, Pride's intervention saves his father, averting this tragedy and allowing for a healthier relationship between father and son.

His most pivotal relationship is with Pride Royal Ivy. After she saves his father and inspires him to reclaim his dream, he becomes her first personal knight, swearing an oath of absolute loyalty to protect her. He also forms a strong and immediate bond with Pride's brother, Stale Royal Ivy. What initially seems like a potential rivalry instead blossoms into a deep friendship based on mutual trust and a shared goal of protecting Pride. They agree to train together, with Stale becoming her shield and Arthur her sword, a partnership Arthur famously calls cheesy. Arthur also shares a respectful bond with other knights, such as Clark Darwin, a close friend of his father who helps guide him.

Arthur's role in the story is that of a loyal retainer and a future love interest. He begins as a boy who has given up on his dream, living in the shadow of his famous father and the disappointment surrounding his ability. Through Pride's influence, he undergoes significant development, finding the courage to pursue knighthood again. He matures from a frustrated youth into a dedicated and capable knight, letting go of his past insecurities. His development contrasts sharply with his fate in the original game, where his father's death warps him into a bitter man who seeks revenge against Pride. In the main narrative, he is able to grow into a respected captain and a cheerful, steadfast ally, embodying the hopeful change Pride seeks to create in her kingdom.
