Description
Eight-year-old Pride Royal Ivy, the crown princess of the Kingdom of Freesia, suddenly regains memories of her past life as an ordinary Japanese high school student. She realizes she has been reincarnated into the world of an otome game called Our Ray of Light. In the game's original story, Pride is destined to become a sadistic and tyrannical queen, serving as the final boss who terrorizes her kingdom and family before ultimately being defeated and killed by her own younger sister, Tiara, the game's protagonist.
Determined to avoid this grim future, Pride resolves to defy her fate. Using her extensive knowledge of the game's plot and her innate "cheat-level" abilities, including incredible fighting prowess and a sharp intellect, she decides to become a benevolent and compassionate ruler. Her goal is to save everyone who was harmed by her villainous counterpart, even if it means sacrificing her own reputation or life.
The story is set in the fantasy Queendom of Freesia, a matriarchal monarchy where Pride navigates political intrigue and personal relationships. Key characters include Stale Royal Ivy, Pride's adopted brother who was enslaved and forced to commit terrible acts in the original timeline but becomes a fiercely loyal ally to the new Pride; Tiara Royal Ivy, Pride's frail and kind-hearted younger sister who was the game's heroine; and Arthur Beresford, the son of the Knight Commander who swears loyalty to Pride after she saves his father's life. Other important figures include Leon Adonis Coronaria, Pride's fiancé and the crown prince of the neighboring Anemone Kingdom; Cedric Silva Lowell, the self-absorbed second prince of the Cercis Kingdom; and Gilbert Butler, the elusive and cunning Prime Minister of Freesia.
The narrative follows several notable arcs as Pride works to rewrite the game's events. An early major arc involves Pride intervening in a military exercise to save Arthur's father, Roderick, from a fatal accident, thereby earning the knights' devotion. Another significant arc sees Pride confronting a bandit leader named Val. Instead of punishing him, she learns his tragic motivation of trying to rescue two orphaned children, Kemet and Sefek, from human traffickers. Pride aids him in a dangerous rescue mission, eventually reforming Val and bringing the children into the royal household. Throughout these events, Pride is haunted by nightmares of the original timeline's atrocities, creating dramatic tension as characters occasionally glimpse the cruel person she was fated to become. A second season premiered in April 2026, continuing Pride's struggle against her predetermined destiny as she faces the game's approaching main storyline.
