Description
Pride Royal Ivy is the crown princess of the Kingdom of Freesia and the central figure of the story. In her previous life she was an ordinary young woman from modern Japan who was a fan of the otome game Our Ray of Light. At the age of eight, she suddenly regains the memories of that past life and realizes she has been reincarnated as the game's final boss, the villainous Princess Pride, who in the original game's storyline brings suffering to the kingdom and is ultimately defeated by the heroine. Because she remembers the game's plot in detail, she understands exactly what kind of ruin awaits her and everyone around her.
Her personality is shaped by that knowledge. She is humble, earnest, and deeply compassionate despite her immense power and royal status, and she feels profound guilt over the terrible deeds the original Pride was destined to commit. She constantly fears that the capacity for cruelty written into that original character might resurface in herself, which makes her vigilant, self-sacrificing, and devoted to doing good. To those who do not know her well, she can initially appear intimidating, and in her early childhood she was perceived as a fearsome and spoiled princess, but she actively works to overturn that impression through her actions.
Her central motivation is to prevent the tragic future of the original game. She uses her knowledge of events and her authority as crown princess to dismantle the disasters that would have befallen the kingdom and its people. She is driven by guilt, responsibility, and a genuine wish to become a savior rather than a destroyer, and she repeatedly asks the people close to her to stop her, even by killing her, if she ever begins to become the tyrant from the game.
In the story she is the protagonist whose decisions drive the narrative forward. By intervening in events she knows are destined to end badly, she saves people who were marked for suffering and gradually reforms the kingdom from within. Her role shifts from that of a feared future villainess to a beloved leader whose subjects and retainers become intensely loyal to her.
Her relationships are central to her development. Her younger sister, Tiara Royal Ivy, was the heroine of the original game who was supposed to defeat her, but in this timeline Tiara adores Pride, and Pride is fiercely protective of her. Her adoptive brother, Stale Royal Ivy, was in the original timeline a victim enslaved by Pride's magic, but Pride rescues him from a life of suffering, and he becomes a devoted and capable ally. Arthur Beresford, the son of the knight commander, was fated to hate her in the original game but becomes her first and most loyal knight after she saves his father's life. Roderick Beresford, the knight commander himself, becomes one of her strongest supporters after she prevents his death. Her mother, Queen Rosa, possesses precognition and was initially wary of Pride because of dark visions of her future, but she gradually comes to trust her daughter. Her father, Albert, is gentle and supportive and is among the first to notice the change in her after she regains her memories.
Over the course of the story, Pride develops from a frightened child weighed down by the knowledge of her terrible fate into a confident and respected leader. Her arc is defined by her internal struggle with guilt and her determination to be good even though she knows what she was written to become, and through her choices she earns the trust and devotion of her family, her knights, and the people of her kingdom.
In terms of abilities, Pride possesses precognition, the ability to glimpse the future, which she inherits from her mother, and her detailed memory of the game's events functions as an extension of that gift. She also has overwhelming magical power and formidable combat skill, described as boss-tier strength, along with a sharp and strategic mind that she applies to governing, diplomacy, and protecting those in her care.
