TV-Series
Description
Jin Kagemori is a supporting character in Daemons of the Shadow Realm, known as Yomi no Tsugai. He is the third son of the Kagemori household, a powerful underground family, and serves as the head of its operational division. In this capacity, he acts as the family’s designated cleaner, a role that involves handling assassination, disposal, and other unsavory tasks. Jin is also a user of Messengers, the supernatural entities central to the series’ conflict.

In terms of appearance, Jin has a tired, somewhat elderly look despite being the youngest of his brothers. He has messy black hair, light stubble, and tired-looking eyes, which he conceals behind small rectangular glasses. He is almost always seen wearing a full suit and tie, often with a trench coat, giving him the air of an intellectual gangster rather than a common thug.

Jin’s personality is defined by his composure and unflappable nature. He is a reason-driven individual who takes his job very seriously and follows the orders of his father and family head, Gonzo, to the letter, making him a highly reliable operative. He does not hesitate to get his hands dirty when necessary, yet he is not cruel. Despite his perpetually expressionless face and his grim profession, Jin is straightforward, grounded, and naturally hardworking. He possesses a notable kindness towards those he is close to and is willing to risk his life to protect his family members, whom he deeply respects.

Jin’s background explains his loyalty to the Kagemori family. His mother, Akane, initially left the family while pregnant with him to escape its influence. However, years later, she abandoned Jin, taking all their possessions and leaving him to fend for himself. She told him to join the Kagemori family. Following her instruction, Jin appeared at the family estate, introduced himself as Gonzo’s son, and asked to stay. Gonzo accepted him, introducing Jin to his older half-brothers, Hikaru and Asuma, and giving him a place within the clan.

Within the story, Jin acts as a composed negotiator and guiding figure, particularly since the arrival of the protagonist, Yuru, into the household. He is a key asset for the Kagemori family, frequently tasked with their most dangerous work. This is demonstrated when he is ordered to hunt down Yuru. Using Asa’s blood as bait, he successfully traps Yuru, showing his tactical intelligence and his ability to anticipate a target’s moves. However, his encounter with Yuru also proves that, despite his skill, he is facing an exceptionally cunning opponent who can turn the tables on him.

Jin’s notable abilities center on his contract with a pair of Messenger anglerfish named Ai and Makoto. Ai is a massive creature with extra limbs that can swim through both air and ground. Its primary ability is to use its lure to disguise itself before clamping its jaws around a target, where its teeth function as an inescapable cage. Ai can also consume a seemingly endless amount of matter, allowing it to dispose of evidence or debris effortlessly. Makoto, a much smaller fish of a similar shape, functions as a mobile, infinite-capacity storage unit, able to provide weapons and tools at a moment’s notice.
