Danko Ichigaki is the protagonist of Honō no Tōkyūjo: Dodge Danko. She is a young and energetic elementary school student who is the daughter of the legendary dodgeball hero Danpei Ichigaki, famed for his mythical technique known as the flaming ball. Having grown up surrounded by old dodgeballs and the stories of her father's glory, Danko has developed an ambitious and determined personality, fueled by a deep-seated desire to surpass her father's legendary achievements through her own strength.

Danko possesses a naturally powerful fastball, a talent she inherited from her father. She dedicates herself to rigorous practice, famously training by throwing a ball at her father's grave every day to hone her skills. A lively and spirited individual, she is also known to be a boku girl, using a traditionally masculine first-person pronoun for herself in Japanese. A notable quirk is her strong dislike for green peppers. Her most treasured possession is one of her father's old dodgeballs.

Her primary motivation is to revive the demotivated dodgeball club at her school, Tamagawa, and lead her team to the national tournament. Throughout the story, she faces formidable opponents and must learn new techniques, discovering that true power comes not just from a strong throw, but from the strength of friendship with her teammates. A key rival is a girl named Peiko, who is the daughter of her father's former rival and who anticipates Danko growing into a worthy opponent. Development for Danko involves growing into this role and proving herself against such adversaries, eventually learning the value of camaraderie as she works to reignite the spirit of her team.
