Funa Uozumi is a character who appears in the story as the seemingly simple and stoic maid living in the home of Nanoka's grandfather. Her true nature, however, is far from ordinary. Funa is not a human being but a shikigami, a spiritual familiar or living doll created by the onmyoji Mao. In her original form, she was a small wooden carving of a crucian carp, a detail reflected in her name as "Funa" specifically refers to this type of fish. Mao breathed life into this wooden fish and cast it through a dimensional gate into the future, where it transformed into her current humanoid appearance. Upon arriving in Nanoka's time, Funa first disguised herself as a nurse at the hospital where Nanoka's grandfather was waiting before using her abilities to seamlessly integrate into the family as their maid.
