Motoko Kumai is a Japanese voice actress, or seiyuu, born on September 8, 1970, in Tokyo, Japan. She is affiliated with the talent management firm 81 Produce. Kumai is widely recognized for her distinct and energetic voice, which she has lent to a vast number of anime series, films, and video games since her debut in the mid-1990s. She is particularly celebrated for her portrayals of young male protagonists, a specialty at which she has become highly regarded, often mentioned alongside other notable female voice actors known for boy roles. A holder of a large motorcycle license and an English teaching license, her hobbies include touring and bird watching.
Kumai's career includes two of the most iconic roles in 1990s and 2000s anime. She is the voice of Syaoran Li in the globally popular series Cardcaptor Sakura and its sequel, Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card. She also voiced the lead role of Takao Kinomiya, known as Tyson Granger in English adaptations, in the long-running franchise Beyblade.
