Yuna Kamihara is a young Okinawan girl living with her grandmother on Izayoi Island after her mother's passing and her father's relocation for work. Her grandfather, a major figure in her life, taught her karate and gave her moonsand as a good luck charm before leaving. As the sensei of her island's dojo holding a black belt, she embodies its core principle of "Ichariba Chodei" – the belief that friendships forge bonds as strong as family. Her life changes dramatically upon meeting Stitch, a blue alien creature, forging a deep friendship. Stitch initially seeks the ultimate power of the island's sacred Chitama Stone but chooses to stay with Yuna after learning good deeds are needed for wishes.
Her personality mixes kindness and feistiness. She is often polite and sweet but becomes fiercely defensive or angry when confronting injustice, bullying, or crime. Confident and sometimes overbearing, she acts decisively in crises, though her impulsiveness can lead to recklessness. She shows a playful, competitive side through friendly rivalries with Stitch and others. Emotionally reserved, she tends to internalize stress until overwhelming pressure triggers outbursts of anger or tears. Thunderstorms are her primary fear; afterward, she rubs her belly button for luck and teases Stitch for lacking one. Physically, she is small and fair-skinned with brown hair styled in two spiky ponytails featuring blue beads (seasons 1–2) or green scrunchies (season 3). Her typical outfit is a red sleeveless dress with yellow flowers, light blue-striped sweatpants, and pink sandals (earlier seasons), later adopting rolled denim jeans and orange sneakers. Her karate uniform is a white gi with a black belt.
Her story unfolds across three seasons. In season one, she and Stitch face threats from Dr. Jacques von Hämsterviel, befriend yokai like Kijimunaa, and reunite with Stitch's "cousins" Sparky, Felix, and Angel. Season two introduces her bullying cousin Tigerlily, who moves in, complicating dynamics but reinforcing themes of familial bonds. Stitch abandons his quest for ultimate power, wishing instead to stay with Yuna forever. Season three sees her relocate to New Town, Okinawa, with Stitch, Tigerlily, Jumba, Pleakley, and their pet BooGoo. Here, she tackles academic challenges, particularly mathematics, and contends with Hämsterviel's enhanced experiments. The season culminates in a battle against Dark End, an artificial lifeform created to destroy Stitch, which Yuna helps him overcome through unwavering support, cementing their found family.
Her relationships are central to her journey. She cherishes her wise grandmother and maintains affection for her absent father. Her bond with Stitch evolves from caretaker to inseparable companion, marked by deep mutual loyalty. A persistent antagonism exists with rival Penny from Izayoi, despite fleeting collaborations, highlighting Yuna's stubbornness. After moving to New Town, she navigates new school dynamics. Two post-series specials depict her joining interplanetary missions with Pleakley to face recurring threats protecting their family.
