Description
Maria is the ringmaster of the Sunflower Circus, the central circus troupe in the anime Grow Up Show: Himawari no Circus-dan. She is an adult, but her physical stature is notably small, a trait that often leads others to mistake her for a child. Despite her youthful appearance, she carries the responsibility of leading her financially struggling circus as it travels across Japan during the late 1950s and early 1960s, a period when circus entertainment was at its peak.

Her personality is characterized by a certain assertiveness, sometimes coming across as forceful or pushy. Nevertheless, she commands genuine respect and affection from her troupe members, who look up to her as a capable and dedicated leader. In performance, Maria takes on the role of a clown, adding a playful and comic element to the circus shows. Her primary motivation appears to be the survival and success of the Sunflower Circus, as the troupe faces constant financial hardship and strives to earn a place in the prestigious Circus Collection festival.

Within the story, Maria functions as the authoritative yet nurturing figure who steers the group, balancing the pressures of management with the personal dynamics of her diverse cast of performers. Her relationships with key members such as Mizuka Tsurumaki, a newly joined circus prodigy, and others like Rin Mamiya, the accountant, are central to her role. While the anime has yet to air, her development is expected to revolve around guiding the troupe through adversity and fostering their collective growth. Her notable abilities lie in her leadership and her skill as a clown performer, contributing to both the operational and artistic aspects of the circus.
