Description
Alna is the main heroine of the story and the first subject of the frontier lord, Dias. She is a member of the Onikin, a tribal people who inhabit the vast, empty plains that Dias has been granted as his domain. Alna is visually distinguished by the single horn she possesses, a trait of her people, and is depicted as being relatively short in stature, especially when standing next to the much larger and more physically imposing Dias. She is noted to be young, having only recently entered adulthood by the standards of her tribe when the narrative begins.

In terms of personality, Alna is intelligent, pragmatic, and resourceful. She serves as the brains of the developing territory, possessing the practical knowledge and survival skills necessary to live on the harsh plains, which contrasts sharply with Dias, who is a seasoned warrior but knows nothing of agriculture or domestic life. Despite her youth, she displays a no-nonsense attitude and a fierce, protective nature. This is evident in her stated willingness to physically confront her own brother for his past misdeeds, which had negatively impacted her life before Dias’s arrival.

Alna’s primary motivation is survival and the prosperity of her new community. Before Dias appeared, she was living a difficult and solitary existence on the plains, abandoned to fend for herself. Her initial role is that of a guide, teaching Dias how to hunt, gather, and thrive in an environment that is completely alien to him. As she teaches him the ways of the Onikin, Dias earns the respect of her tribe through his own immense strength and work ethic, leading to her becoming his fiancée and, effectively, the first citizen of his new domain.

Her key relationship is, of course, with Dias. The dynamic between them is one of complementary strengths: his brute force and her cleverness allow them to overcome the various challenges of frontier life. While she is often the one managing the village and keeping things running smoothly from the background, she also has a profound personal connection with him, having declared herself his wife early in their relationship. Another significant, though negative, relationship is with her unnamed brother, who is described as a "deadbeat" that ruined her childhood and later attempts to disrupt her marriage to Dias.

Throughout the story, Alna shows notable development from a solitary survivor to a foundational leader of a growing community. She begins as an outcast and gradually becomes the central manager of a village, taking care of its daily operations and playing a crucial role in its expansion. Her journey is one of finding a place to belong and building something lasting with Dias, moving from a practical arrangement for survival to a genuine partnership.

Alna possesses several notable abilities, most of which are tied to her Onikin heritage. Her most unique trait is her horn, which allows her to read the intentions of others. This ability is a key part of her tribe's culture and provides her with a form of protection and insight in social situations. She also has a keen intuitive sense, described by some as an almost precognitive ability to say the right thing to improve a difficult situation, as well as a form of detection that may be attuned to allies of both her tribe and Dias. Beyond these inherent traits, her practical abilities are vast, including all manner of survival, farming, and village management skills that are essential for the territory's survival.
