Description
Miya Nakamura is the protagonist of My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked. She is a young girl born as the illegitimate child of a wealthy and prominent family. Growing up in poverty alongside her beloved mother, Miya is taken in by her father's legitimate household, the Kounokura family, after her mother passes away. Expecting a life of servitude and cruelty based on classic stepfamily stories, she is instead met with genuine kindness and affection from her new stepmother and stepsisters. This contrast is partly driven by her anthropophobia, a fear of people, which causes her to misinterpret the intimidating appearances and earnest actions of her new family as hostile.

Miya's personality is modest, kind-hearted, and gentle. She is initially timid and burdened by an inferiority complex due to her status as an illegitimate child, which makes her prone to overthinking and assuming the worst in social situations. Her primary motivation is to find a place where she belongs and to overcome her own insecurities, all while reciprocating the unexpected warmth shown by the Kounokura family.

As the central character, Miya's perspective drives the narrative. The story focuses on her gradual realization that her stepfamily is not wicked, and the comedy and heart of the series stem from her misunderstandings and their earnest attempts to reassure her. Key relationships include her stepmother Teru Konokura, who is a strong yet caring matriarch; her stepsisters Marika and Arisa, both protective and affectionate; and the family dog Gungnir, a loyal companion that helps Miya feel more at ease. A notable contrast is her maternal grandmother, Yasu Nakamura, who initially appears frail and worried but is later revealed to be manipulative and exploitative.

Miya's development centers on shedding her fears and inferiority complex as she experiences unconditional acceptance. She gradually learns to trust her family's intentions, becomes more confident, and deepens the bonds within her new home. Her notable abilities are not supernatural; they lie in her resilience, empathy, and capacity to adapt emotionally to a drastically changed environment through the support of those around her.
