Description
Gaku'Ei is a character from the state of Zhao who serves as a general and a prominent antagonist. He is a tall man of considerable stature, typically seen wearing a plumed helmet adorned with two long horns and blue armor that features distinctive long shoulder guards. He has brown hair, a long beard, and sharp, intense eyes.

Before becoming the deputy and right-hand man to his lord, the general Kei Sha, Gaku'Ei was described as a lone wolf with a serious disposition, killing his opponents without feeling or remorse. His entire personality transformed when Kei Sha offered him a simple compliment, "Good work," which was the first time anyone had acknowledged his efforts. From that moment, he became incredibly loyal and attached to Kei Sha. While serving under him, Gaku'Ei could be sarcastic, often making jokes, and was arrogant in battle, mocking enemies who fell into his lord's traps.

Gaku'Ei's primary motivation becomes vengeance after Kei Sha is slain by Shin, the leader of the Hi Shin Unit. Upon learning of his master's death, he becomes consumed by a blind rage and swears to annihilate Shin and every last soldier of the Hi Shin Unit. This obsession makes him distant and reckless; he ignores the counsel of fellow commanders and even threatens his allies, such as the general Ki Sui, for abandoning the cause of revenge to protect their own homelands.

In the story, Gaku'Ei first appears during the Koku You Campaign as a commander in Kei Sha's army. After Kei Sha's death, he is forced to withdraw but vows to fulfill his vengeance another day. He returns as a major antagonist during the Western Zhao Invasion Arc at the Battle of Shukai Plains, where he leads his own personal army of 10,000 soldiers as part of the Zhao left wing under the command of the great general Ri Boku. On the battlefield, his unit is noted for its ferocity, especially when facing the Hi Shin Unit, as he and his soldiers fight with the sole intention of wiping them out to honor their late master.

His key relationships are defined by his loyalty to Kei Sha and his hatred for Shin. He holds animosity toward his fellow generals Kin Mou and Ki Sui for not immediately informing him of Kei Sha's death, though he reluctantly understands their decision. He is also dismissive of his temporary allies on the Shukai Plains, including the generals Ba Nan Ji and Chou Ga Ryuu.

Gaku'Ei is a capable and experienced commander. As a deputy of the Kei Sha Army, he could clash equally with Rai Do, a lieutenant of the fearsous Kan Ki Army. Ka Ryo Ten, the strategist of the Hi Shin Unit, notes that while he is considered the weakest of the Zhao generals on the left wing at Shukai Plains, he would still be considered one of the strongest heavy hitters in any other army. In terms of statistics, his strength is rated highly, and he has considerable leadership and tactical skill, once using a tactic of felling trees to block a cavalry advance. He fights with a spear and can easily slay numerous enemy soldiers. However, his martial skill is decisively outmatched; when he finally confronts Shin in single combat, he is cut down in a single, devastating blow.
