Description
Gyou'un is a general from the state of Zhao and a former deputy of the legendary Great General Rin Shou Jo, who was one of the Three Great Heavens. He was known as the "sword" of the Rin Shou Jo Army and the leader of the Rin Family's Ten Heroes or Ten Generals, representing the martial might of Zhao during his prime alongside his close colleague Chou Ga Ryuu.

Gyou'un possesses a tall, imposing stature and a long goatee, but his most distinctive feature is his inhuman, reptile-like eyes. He wears a helmet adorned with a snake motif and uses the same armor he wore during his service under Rin Shou Jo. He wields a glaive or podao as his primary weapon.

His personality is characterized by a grim and intense demeanor, which makes him appear unsociable, especially when compared to his friend Chou Ga Ryuu's calm disposition. Despite this, he is a deeply caring and considerate individual, showing genuine concern for his master's health and the welfare of those around him. Gyou'un carries the heavy mantle of his former lord's legacy, viewing himself as a pillar of Zhao's military history. He is profoundly grateful to Rin Shou Jo, who purchased him as a slave and raised him, giving him a purpose in life. His loyalty was absolute, and he was prepared to sacrifice himself for his master.

The motivation driving Gyou'un is rooted in the past. Following Rin Shou Jo's death from illness, the other eight members of the Rin Family's Ten Heroes perished in suicidal battles dedicated to their master's memory. On his deathbed, Rin Shou Jo forced the two survivors, Gyou'un and Chou Ga Ryuu, to swear an oath to live on. As a result, Gyou'un became overwhelmed with grief and bitter toward life, viewing his existence as hollow for many years. His return to the battlefield is spurred by a prophecy from Rin Shou Jo, who predicted that the Qin would one day invade at the Shukai Plains. Gyou'un enters the war to fulfill his master's last will, treating the battle as an opportunity to end his hollow existence by stopping the new generation of Qin commanders.

In the story, Gyou'un serves as a major antagonist during the Western Zhao Invasion Arc. Summoned by Ri Boku to defend against the Qin invasion, he is positioned on the Shukai Plains. Upon entering the battle, he easily crushes the Qin frontline and proves to be a formidable obstacle for the young generation of Qin commanders, including Shin of the Hi Shin Unit and Ou Hon of the Gyoku Hou Unit. Gyou'un engages Shin in a fierce duel, initially overwhelming him and testing the weight of Ou Ki's glaive which Shin carries. He recognizes the dangerous potential in the new Qin commanders, comparing them to the legendary Six Great Generals of Qin's past and viewing himself as a "killing arrow from a different age" sent to stop them.

His key relationships are central to his character. His bond with his late master Rin Shou Jo defines his entire existence. He also shares a deep camaraderie with Chou Ga Ryuu, his fellow survivor of the Rin Family's Ten Heroes, with whom he often discusses their master's legacy. On the battlefield, he develops a significant rivalry with Shin, whom he views as an unworthy but growing wielder of Ou Ki's glaive, a weapon he once fought to shatter. He also clashes with Ou Hon, who ultimately manages to defeat him.

Gyou'un is a seasoned warrior whose skills are respected even by the likes of Ri Boku. As the greatest warrior of the Rin Shou Jo Army, his martial might was legendary, to the point where speaking of the army's strength was to speak of Gyou'un. He is an instinctual type warrior, capable of sensing the flow of the battlefield and predicting enemy maneuvers. He uses this intuition to "light a fire" at critical moments to maximize damage to his opponents. Notably, his instinctual abilities allow him to read strategic-type commanders, often outmaneuvering more traditional tacticians. His physical prowess allows him to fight extended duels and endure severe injuries while continuing to strike with lethal force. However, his abilities are tied to his mental state; he wonders if his instincts have dulled during his long absence from major warfare. Ultimately, his long career comes to an end on the Shukai Plains, where he is slain by Ou Hon, meeting his death not as the first but as the last of Rin Shou Jo's closest retainers.
