Description
Kōki Kamishiro is the male lead of the story and the childhood friend of the protagonist, Sae Iwata. He was born and grew up in the same neighborhood as Sae, and the two have known each other since elementary school. During those early years, Kōki was a small, frail boy who was not particularly confident. He disliked drinking milk and was shy about speaking in front of others. Sae, who was taller and stronger, often looked after him, helping him with school presentations and even drinking his milk for him. This early bond formed the foundation of their relationship. However, during the years between elementary and middle school, Kōki underwent a dramatic physical transformation. By the time they were about to graduate from middle school, he had grown significantly, becoming tall and athletic, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He also developed into a handsome and sociable young man who quickly became popular among his classmates, a stark contrast to his former timid self.

Personality-wise, Kōki is fundamentally kind, earnest, and possesses a strong sense of justice. He approaches everything he does with genuine effort, whether it is his studies, his involvement in the school soccer club, or his relationships. Despite his popularity and the attention he receives from other girls, he has consistently turned down all romantic confessions, stating that there is already someone he likes. He is not arrogant about his popularity and remains approachable and friendly to everyone. He has a gentle and considerate demeanor, but he also has a protective streak, especially when it comes to Sae. He becomes visibly upset if anyone speaks poorly of her, showing that his niceness has limits when someone he cares about is involved. A small but notable physical detail is his canine tooth, which serves as an endearing charm point.

Kōki's primary motivation throughout the story is his deep, long-standing affection for Sae. While he was oblivious to her feelings for a time, his own feelings have been consistent. Many of his actions, including his decision to study hard and attend the same high school as Sae, are driven by a desire to remain close to her and to be someone she can rely on. He wants to protect her and support her, which has been a part of his character since childhood and only grows stronger as he matures. His earnestness sometimes makes him clumsy when it comes to expressing his romantic feelings, leading to moments of misunderstanding that are central to the story's tension.

In the story, Kōki serves as both the love interest and a catalyst for Sae's personal growth. Their dynamic is the emotional core of the narrative, exploring how an old childhood bond can evolve into a new, more complex romantic relationship. He is a member of the school soccer club, which contributes to his busy school life and popularity. His role is not just that of a romantic prize; he actively works to be better for Sae, and his own development is shown alongside hers.

Kōki's key relationships are centered on Sae, but he also interacts with their mutual circle of friends. He is close with Yōta Ayukawa and Yūshin Izawa, and he maintains a friendly rapport with other classmates. Outside of school, he has an older brother who is a university student and a high school senior cousin named Subaru Kamishiro. His relationship with his family is supportive, and his mother is aware of his close bond with Sae.

Throughout the series, Kōki's character develops from a once-frail boy into a confident young man, but his core personality remains consistent. His growth is marked not by a change in his values, but by a deepening of his emotional maturity and his ability to articulate his feelings. He becomes more aware of how his actions affect Sae and learns to navigate the complexities of a romantic relationship, moving beyond the simple dynamic of their childhood friendship. Notably, he has a tendency to impulsively alter his plans to stay close to Sae, as seen when he declares he will also attend the school she chose, demonstrating that his feelings often guide his decisions. His notable abilities lie primarily in his athletic skill as a soccer player and his academic dedication, which he uses as a means to stay connected to Sae. His greatest strength, however, is his unwavering sincerity and the depth of his devotion to the person he loves.
