TV Special
Description
Misumi Aoba is a high school student known throughout his school as a delinquent with a fearsome reputation. This reputation began in middle school after a minor incident led to a fight, which then spiraled into rumors, further confrontations, and eventual isolation. By the time the story begins, he has become accustomed to being avoided by classmates and scolded by teachers, and he has learned to brush off their judgment. Beneath his rough exterior, marked by bruises, piercings, and messy crimson hair, Misumi is actually kind‑hearted and gentle. His tough facade is a defense mechanism developed from years of being misunderstood and treated as dangerous.
His motivations are rooted in self‑preservation and a protective instinct toward others. He avoids emotional connections because he does not want to drag anyone into his troubled world. When he witnesses his classmate Riku Kitahara being harassed by a group of delinquents, he steps in to draw their attention away, allowing Riku to escape. Misumi does not consider this an act of heroism and is irritated when Riku later defends him in front of a teacher. He tries to intimidate Riku into keeping his distance, warning that getting involved with him will lead to being ostracized by everyone else.
Riku Kitahara is the key relationship in Misumi’s life. Riku is an honor student with a strong sense of justice, and he is not frightened by Misumi’s reputation. After being rescued, Riku begins to see Misumi’s hidden kindness and persistently tries to connect with him. Misumi initially resists this attention, unsure how to handle the genuine friendliness he has never received before. Over the course of the story, Misumi’s resolve begins to falter as he slowly lets his guard down around Riku, revealing the vulnerability and warmth underneath his abrasive behavior.
In terms of development, Misumi undergoes a noticeable change from a loner who pushes everyone away to someone who tentatively allows another person in. The anime special covers only the beginning of this arc, showing him soften his rough edges and begin to form a friendship with Riku. By the end, he stops avoiding Riku and shows the first signs of trusting him. His notable abilities lie not in any special power but in his physical resilience from years of fighting, as well as an underlying emotional strength that allows him to maintain his core decency despite constant hostility from those around him.
