Description
Gekkomon is a reptilian Digimon and the primary partner of the protagonist Tomoro Tenma in the anime Digimon Beatbreak. Gekkomon is born directly from Tomoro's Sapotama, an egg-shaped AI device that generates energy called e-Pulse from human thoughts and emotions. This unusual birth occurs when Tomoro angrily attempts to throw his malfunctioning Sapotama, and Gekkomon emerges, immediately swallowing the device and biting Tomoro to absorb his e-Pulse.

Gekkomon has a vibrant and distinctive appearance, featuring green skin, grey eyes, a blue lightning-like mark near each eye, an orange crescent-shaped mark on the forehead, sharp teeth, and a notably large tongue. This tongue serves as Gekkomon's primary weapon in combat. The Digimon's body includes pink forearms, blue three-toed hands, blue lower legs, pink three-toed feet, a yellow belly and jaw, and a long scarf-like green tail with pink stripes.

Gekkomon's personality is defined by an insatiable appetite, a penchant for sticking its nose into everything, and a tendency to charge ahead without thinking about consequences. This Digimon is always hungry and prioritizes satisfying its appetite above almost all else. Gekkomon has a particular fondness for minced-meat cutlets, known as menchi-katsu, and despises patience. Unusually for a Digimon, Gekkomon consumes human food, specifically a dish called Glowing Dawn, and shows a preference for old samurai movies, mimicking the dual-wielding techniques seen in such films. Gekkomon also has a habit of botching common phrases in conversation.

In terms of role within the story, Gekkomon is the catalyst that draws Tomoro into the world of Digimon and the bounty-hunting organization known as Glowing Dawn. Shortly after its birth, Gekkomon helps Tomoro escape from attacking Digimon and inadvertently leads him to discover that his comatose brother Asuka has been affected by the Cold Heart phenomenon. A notable aspect of Gekkomon's origin is that its birth and subsequent draining of Tomoro's e-Pulse inflict the beginnings of Cold Heart on Tomoro himself.

The relationship between Gekkomon and Tomoro is central to the narrative and undergoes significant development. Initially, their bond is fraught with tension, as Tomoro resents being forced to care for a creature that forcibly drained his energy and disrupted his life. Their arguments highlight Tomoro's distrust of AI and his reluctance to accept responsibility for Gekkomon, while Gekkomon calls out Tomoro for being ungrateful and heartless toward the being that saved his life. Despite these early conflicts, Gekkomon consistently asks permission before taking e-Pulse from Tomoro, showing a growing respect for boundaries. A turning point occurs when Tomoro apologizes to Gekkomon for causing it to go berserk and finally calls the Digimon by name for the first time, leaving Gekkomon excited by this acknowledgement.

Gekkomon also forms a significant bond with Pandamon, another Digimon encountered during a mission. The two develop a brotherly relationship, and Gekkomon later demonstrates its capacity for selflessness by sharing its own e-Pulse to save Pandamon's life when the older Digimon is critically injured. Within the Glowing Dawn team, Gekkomon's gluttonous eating habits often surprise other members like Pristimon and Cougarmon.

Gekkomon's character development is notable as it transitions from a creature that forcibly drained e-Pulse from Tomoro upon birth to one that respectfully asks for sustenance. The Digimon shows moments of emotional complexity, such as when it nearly goes berserk after Tomoro, consumed by anger, orders it to delete a defenseless opponent, forcing a confrontation about morality and restraint. Gekkomon also demonstrates a unique moral code regarding food, refusing to eat food that has fallen on the ground, showing that it has standards even regarding its primary drive.

In combat, Gekkomon possesses several notable abilities that utilize its extendable tongue. Its signature attack, Smash Beat, strikes foes with its freely-extendable tongue with enough force to knock out Digimon stronger than itself if it lands a clean hit. Break Throw allows Gekkomon to grab nearby objects with its tongue and hurl them at opponents. Swing Tackle involves latching onto a nearby object with its tongue before spinning around using centrifugal force to launch a body slam. These abilities, combined with Gekkomon's impulsive and fearless nature, make it an unpredictable opponent in battle, capable of holding its own against more powerful Digimon like the Champion-level Fangmon.
