Description
Hyemon Piercing is a Digimon who appears in the anime series Digimon Beatbreak as one of the first antagonists encountered by the protagonist, Tomoro Tenma. He is one of two notable members of the Hyemon species introduced in the series, distinguished from his companion by a piercing in his left ear. The other, Hyemon Scar, who has a scar over his right eye, is referred to by Pierce as his brother, indicating a close pack bond between the two.

In terms of personality, Hyemon Piercing exhibits the cunning and predatory traits of his species. Hyemon are known for hunting in groups, utilizing a combination of clever tactics and superior stamina to efficiently pursue their prey. While Scar appears to be the leader and more brutish of the pair, Pierce is characterized as the subordinate but demonstrates a calculated and persistent nature. Unlike his brother, who forgets the humans he has attacked, Pierce is noted to remember the names of those he has targeted, suggesting a more calculating and perhaps more dangerous form of malice.

The primary motivation for Hyemon Piercing is to hunt humans and absorb their e-Pulse, a vital energy source. He and Scar are responsible for causing two cases of the debilitating condition known as Cold Heart, which occurs when a person has their e-Pulse drained. The pair attacked Hitomi Shinomiya, and later targeted Asuka Tenma, Tomoro’s brother. Notably, while Scar physically took Asuka’s e-Pulse, Piercing’s attack on Hitomi becomes a central point of conflict in the early story. His name initially carries a bounty of only 500 credits, but this is raised to 100,000 credits as the severity of his actions becomes clear, marking him as a significant threat.

In the story’s early narrative, Hyemon Piercing serves as a persistent and personal foe for Tomoro. After Scar is seemingly deleted by a mysterious ape-like Digimon, Pierce becomes terrified and flees, only to continue his hunt. He does not give up on his goal of consuming Tomoro’s powerful and unusual e-Pulse, which has been shown to glitch Sapotama devices. This obsession leads him to hide in the shadows, eventually killing the partner Digimon of a minor gang member to sustain himself while he plots his next move.

His key relationships are primarily defined by his bond with his brother, Scar. Pierce looks to Scar as the leader, and witnessing Scar’s sudden and violent death is a traumatic event that forces him to retreat in fear. His other significant relationship is with his primary target, Tomoro Tenma. He is fixated on Tomoro’s e-Pulse, leading to a cat-and-mouse game between the boy’s group, Glowing Dawn, and the rogue Digimon.

Hyemon Piercing undergoes several notable developments. He starts as part of a two-Digimon hunting pack, but after his brother’s death, he becomes a lone and desperate fugitive. In a final confrontation, he demonstrates his growth in power by digivolving to his Adult form, Fangmon. In this form, he gains the terrifying ability to generate a Mirror World, a pocket dimension, and to disguise himself as individuals dear to his target, using psychological manipulation to gain the upper hand. Despite this power, he is ultimately defeated by Tomoro and his partner Gekkomon. Following his defeat, he degenerates into the baby form Punimon. At this point, Tomoro demands his deletion, believing a monster like him would surely attack again, but he is saved by the intervention of Glowing Dawn, who do not delete Digimon. The series implies that as Punimon, he may retain some faint memories of his past life, as he is shown to be terrified upon seeing Tomoro again.

As a Hyemon, his notable abilities are rooted in his physical prowess and pack tactics. He possesses powerful jaws capable of biting through hard substances, which he uses in his signature attack, Cursed Bite. As a pack, he and Scar could theoretically use a roar called Release Howling to temporarily enhance their physical strength. Upon digivolving into Fangmon, his abilities become more sophisticated, centering on the creation of a Mirror World and deceptive illusions to trap and hunt his prey.
