Description
Tōru Muhyō is a prodigious magical law enforcer and the youngest graduate from the Magical Law School. His early training involved childhood friends Yoichi and Soratsugu Madoka (Enchu), during which Muhyo initially struggled academically. His latent talent surfaced during a spirit attack where he instinctively saved Yoichi while Enchu froze, sparking Enchu's jealousy. This intensified when Muhyo received an enforcer promotion first, ultimately pushing Enchu toward forbidden magic and their later conflict.
Muhyo runs a small supernatural investigation bureau with assistant Jirō "Roji" Kusano from a modest office. Persistent financial instability stems from low fees and occasional non-payment. Despite this, they handle diverse spirit possession cases, rescuing clients like skeptical boy Kenji—who vandalized their sign before they saved him from a blood-drinking ghost—and Nana, freed from her father's vengeful spirit.
In appearance, Muhyo is short with an oval-shaped head, cat-like blue eyes, and spiky black hair shaped by unconventional sleep habits. He wears a signature dark cape over his standard Magical Law Association uniform, often paired with bright red shorts sourced from children's sections due to his stature. He dislikes vegetables, dairy, and disturbances to his sleep, favoring meat-based dishes like hamburger stew.
Personality-wise, Muhyo presents as aloof, blunt, and frequently emotionless when judging spirits. He exhibits deadpan snark, sleeps excessively to conserve spiritual energy, and openly chastises revealingly dressed women despite general disinterest in romance. Beneath this exterior lies a strong sense of justice and loyalty; he secretly cares deeply for Roji, protecting him in crises and selecting him as an assistant after a covert test revealed Roji's selflessness. Muhyo prioritizes redemption over vengeance, advocating for Enchu's rehabilitation despite his betrayal.
His abilities center on high-level magical law execution, demanding significant spiritual energy that often exhausts him. He speaks the underworld's language, enabling him to summon and command powerful entities—including Hades—to enact judgments typically requiring multiple enforcers. He can pause or halt punishments, demonstrating exceptional control. Additional strengths include physical combat prowess, sprinting speed, and proficiency in ping-pong, though he tires quickly and avoids long engagements.
Throughout his journey, Muhyo confronts figures like the corrupted enforcer Goryō and his syndicate, the immortal Teeki, and Sophie—a formidable spirit requiring a four-enforcer commandment to subdue. His development includes reconciling with Enchu, who confessed his feelings before accepting imprisonment, and mentoring Roji to unlock latent potential. These experiences reinforce his commitment to justice beyond rigid protocols, balancing realist pragmatism with compassion for clients and spirits.
