Description
Elmesia, whose full name is Elmesia El Ru Sarion, is the Celestial Emperor of the Sorcerous Dynasty of Sarion, a powerful elven nation. Despite her appearance as a beautiful and youthful young girl, she is an ancient High Elf who has lived for over two thousand years. As the founder of her dynasty, she declared herself its Heavenly Emperor and holds absolute power over her domain, making her one of the most influential and wealthiest rulers on the continent.
Elmesia presents a carefully controlled exterior, appearing cold and expressionless when dealing with her subjects and conducting official business. This stoic demeanor, however, is not a reflection of her true personality. Among close friends and trusted allies, she becomes far more open, warm, and even playful. She demonstrates this by affectionately teasing her powerful acquaintances, such as calling King Gazel Dwargo Little Gazel and referring to Demon Lord Leon Cromwell as Leon-kun. Her belief system holds that royalty should not be slaves to their people but should instead live freely and enjoy the privileges of their station. This philosophy underpins much of her behavior, as she actively seeks out beneficial alliances and personal enjoyment.
In the film Tears of the Azure Sea, Elmesia serves as the catalyst for the story's events. The plot begins when she invites Rimuru Tempest and his companions from the Jura Tempest Federation to take a vacation on a private resort island that she owns. Her role is primarily that of a powerful and generous host, facilitating the initial setting that leads the group to encounter the priestess Yura and become entangled in the conflict of the underwater nation of Kaien. Her invitation transitions the story from a moment of rest into a new adventure.
Elmesia maintains several key relationships that define her political and personal life. She forms a rapid and strong alliance with Rimuru Tempest after becoming interested in his nation's technology and culture, and she ultimately becomes his advisor. This relationship is so amicable that they, along with the merchant Gard Mjöllmile, form a trio known as the Trio of Scheming Friends, who collaborate on various projects and even purchase a shared vacation home connected by a teleportation circle. She also has a long-standing acquaintance with King Gazel Dwargo, whom she has known since the time of his grandfather, and treats him in a familiarly teasing manner. Furthermore, she is a close friend of Demon Lord Leon Cromwell, maintaining a level of rapport that allows them to share information. Within her own family, she shares a notably close bond with her cousin, Elyun Grimwald, who affectionately calls her Ellie, a nickname that reflects their disregard for formal hierarchy.
While the film does not focus on her personal growth, the larger narrative shows Elmesia as a character who is already fully developed, possessing a sharp and calculating mind honed over millennia. Her actions are typically driven by a desire to secure advantages for her nation and to maintain the global balance of power. However, she also shows a genuine capacity for friendship and a desire for personal freedom and amusement, which is why she proactively seeks camaraderie with rising powers like Rimuru. Notably, when Rimuru's power grows too rapidly, such as during a war with the Eastern Empire, she does not hesitate to confront him directly to ascertain his true intentions, demonstrating a cautious and pragmatic side to her leadership.
As befitting an ancient elven emperor, Elmesia is exceptionally powerful. Her true combat ability is estimated to be on par with that of a Demon Lord, though she rarely needs to display this strength openly, preferring to operate from behind the scenes. Beyond her individual might, her true power lies in her vast political influence, her immense wealth, and her strategic genius. She is the secret leader of multiple influential organizations, including a clandestine group known as the Drunk Sages Trio and the public Western General Trading Company. She is also proficient in advanced magic, including the use of transfer magic circles for instantaneous travel, which she uses to facilitate her personal and political meetings.
