Description
P-Chan is the pet name given to a small black pig that lives with the Tendo family, but the pig is actually the cursed form of the young martial artist Ryoga Hibiki. During a trip to China, Ryoga was knocked into the Spring of Drowned Black Pig at the cursed springs, and from that moment cold water transforms him into a little black pig while hot water returns him to his human body. Akane Tendo first discovered the pig when she saw Ranma scuffling with it and assumed Ranma was bullying a helpless animal. She rescued the pig, gave it the name P-Chan as a shortening of pig, and adopted it as her own pet without ever learning that it is actually Ryoga.
In terms of background, Ryoga is Ranma's longtime rival from their school days and is famous for his hopeless sense of direction, which causes him to wander endlessly no matter where he is trying to go. He chased Ranma to China to settle their rivalry and gained the pig curse during that journey, after which he ended up in Akane's care.
