Description
Akito Ashimine is a scissor tsugumomo who manifested alongside his sister Arumi Ashimine and another tsukumogami, Hifumi, serving the same master across three generations. The three swore sibling bonds. Though scissors are not traditional weapons, Akito displayed exceptional combat skill, acting as a bodyguard against bandits and aberrations. Their master increasingly exploited Hifumi's fate-manipulation abilities, causing her health to decline. After Akito and Arumi pleaded in vain for it to stop, they informed villagers of the abuses, triggering a mob that killed their master and Hifumi. The mob then attacked Akito and Arumi, forcing them to retaliate in self-defense.
This trauma instilled a deep distrust of humans. They sought new masters for survival but endured repeated mistreatment, abandoning fourteen owners. Fleeing their last master, they discovered a red bowl granting access to Mayoiga, a sanctuary for tsukumogami. Upon entry, Yasuki Yatsukawa attacked them; they defended themselves until Mimane Miyou intervened. Mayoiga's leader, Tanmen, welcomed them, and they integrated into the community.
When Tanmen revealed Mayoiga's dependence on a weakening stone shard and the need to kill a God of the Land for a new one, Akito agreed to assist, motivated by protecting their new home. Arumi's divination guided their efforts, leading to the capture of a hostile obi tsukumogami later identified as Azami. Azami provided intelligence on the weakened local deity Kukuri, prompting Akito, Arumi, Yasuki, and Mimane to infiltrate Kamioka East Middle School. Their mission involved creating aberrations to drain Kukuri's power.
During the infiltration, Akito supervised aberration deployments and intervened in conflicts, such as preventing an amasogi's destruction during Mana Manaka's incident. He often mediated tensions within the group, particularly restraining Yasuki during arguments with Azami. Trapped in Wakana Wakisaka's love sugoroku amasogi with Arumi, Kazuya Kagami, and Kiriha, Akito answered intimate questions about Arumi, unaware of her romantic feelings. After Kazuya exposed Mimane's identity, Akito posed as her owner to maintain cover.
When Mayoiga radicals attacked Kukuri, Akito initially considered joining them but refrained after Mimane assessed Kukuri's strength. He instead aided Kazuya, defeating the radical Genbu. Later, Arumi alerted him to a revolt in Mayoiga, where they confronted Sanjuurou. Akito joined Miurahi's assault on Hakusan Shrine, hiding with Arumi during Miurahi's fight with Kukuri. They witnessed Azami betray and kill Miurahi, using his stone shard to revive Kanaka Kagami. Akito grew increasingly frustrated as their divination failed to foresee this, suspecting manipulation since the black mass incident.
After Kanaka's sealing, Mayoiga tsukumogami were taken to Tsuzura Temple. Masuji Madarai exploited Arumi's divination via puppet bindings, causing her pain. Enraged upon seeing Arumi and Mimane fused into Madarai's amalgamated form, Akito fought alongside Kazuya, who freed them. Ouhi later healed Arumi and the others, reuniting the siblings. Post-recovery, Ouhi and Ouna temporarily owned Arumi, employing her divination to guide Kazuya's training, with Akito supporting these efforts.
