Description
Itsuki Takeuchi is best known as the boisterous and loyal best friend of Takumi Fujiwara, a relationship that forms the core of his identity. During his high school years, he works alongside Takumi and his senior Koichiro Iketani at an Esso gas station in Shibukawa. His personality is loud, enthusiastic, and often provides comic relief, fueled by a deep and genuine passion for street racing and a strong desire to join the Akina SpeedStars.
A defining moment in his early life is his misguided purchase of a car. Dreaming of owning the legendary Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86, he instead buys a Toyota Corolla Levin SR, also known as an AE85, due to a lack of research. He is initially humiliated when his friends point out its inferior power, brakes, and suspension compared to the sought-after 86. However, his outlook transforms when Takumi demonstrates the car's potential during a practice drive on Akina's downhill course, inspiring Itsuki to take his own driving seriously. He later installs a turbocharger and proudly considers himself a member of the SpeedStars.
His own foray into racing is brief and ends in trouble. He accepts an impromptu downhill battle against Shingo Shoji of the Myogi NightKids. Driving his AE85 against Shingo's more powerful Honda Civic, Itsuki is bumped from behind and crashes, suffering minor injuries that require hospitalization. This incident serves as a catalyst for Takumi to challenge Shingo to a revenge race. On the romantic front, Itsuki faces several disappointments. His first relationship, with a girl named Saori, ends after his traumatic crash. Later, he develops feelings for Kazumi, the sister of a rival driver, who initially seems to reciprocate his interest and even teaches him drifting techniques. Ultimately, however, Kazumi leaves with her brother, and later rejects him, leaving Itsuki heartbroken once more.
Years later, in the events of MF Ghost, Itsuki has undergone significant changes but remains in Shibukawa. He still works at the same gas station, which has since been converted into an electric vehicle charging station. He has gained a considerable amount of weight and is now married with children. His enduring friendship with Takumi continues, and he takes on a supportive role for a new generation, cheering on Kanata Katagiri, who is Takumi's student, and other rising stars like Sena Kobayakawa.
Physically, Itsuki is of slightly below-average height, standing at 163 centimeters, or about five feet four inches. Among his quirks is a noted ability to get his car airborne on hilly roads, a skill that is more distinctive than it is useful for serious racing. He maintains a strong preference for rear-wheel-drive cars with manual transmissions and has a pronounced dislike for front-wheel-drive vehicles, automatics, and diesel engines.
