Description
Acrobatic Silky, also known as Akusara or Acrobatic Sarasara, is a yokai who serves as the primary antagonist of the second story arc in DAN DA DAN. She was once a human single mother living in crushing poverty, working multiple grueling jobs including as a sex worker and accumulating significant debt. After using some of her earnings to buy her daughter a dress, debt collectors came to her home, violently beat her, took all her money, and kidnapped her child. Desperate and broken, she chased after them but lost all hope, performed one last dance, and leaped from a building to her death, filled with regret and longing for her lost child. As a yokai, she lost all conscious memories of her human life, left only with a profound sense of loss and an overwhelming need to find a child to love. She takes the form of a tall, unnervingly slender woman with long, silky black hair, a narrow and wrinkled face, hollow dark eyes, and a permanent, unsettling smile painted in red lipstick that exposes her teeth. She is barefoot and wears a wide-brimmed red hat and a tattered red dress with a high collar, a spectral echo of the garment she had bought for her daughter. Her personality is defined by a desperate, obsessive maternal instinct; she is delusional, fiercely possessive and protective of any child she claims as her own, and speaks in an overly polite, grammatically unusual tone peppered with outdated slang. Her primary motivation is to reunite with her child, which centers on Aira Shiratori. When Aira was a young girl who had recently lost her own mother, she briefly regained her ability to see spirits and, in her grief, mistook Acrobatic Silky for her deceased mother, calling out to her. This single act triggered the yokai’s fractured psyche, causing her to believe Aira was her lost daughter. For over ten years, she stalked the girl, waiting for the day Aira would see her again. When Aira’s spiritual senses are reawakened after finding a golden ball belonging to Okarun, Acrobatic Silky attacks, attempting to swallow Aira and force her to become her child, bringing her into direct conflict with Momo Ayase and Ken Okarun. During the battle, she accidentally kills Aira by absorbing her life aura. Overcome with guilt and clarity, she willingly sacrifices her own existence, asking Momo to transfer her remaining aura to Aira to bring the girl back to life. To prove her sincerity, she violently rips out her own jaw. As her body crumbles away, she regains her painful memories of her human life and her true daughter. Aira, revived, embraces her and calls her mother, allowing Acrobatic Silky’s tormented soul to finally find peace and reunite with her real child in the afterlife. Acrobatic Silky possesses extraordinary agility, speed, and reflexes, able to keep pace with Okarun when he channels Turbo Granny’s speed of one hundred kilometers per hour. She also has enhanced strength and durability. Her signature ability is hair manipulation: she can extend and control her long, silky hair to bind enemies, navigate her environment, and attack from a distance. She can also swallow people whole, temporarily storing them inside her body. After her sacrifice, her acrobatic abilities and hair-manipulation powers are passed on to Aira.
