Description
Peni is an alien character in the anime Dan Da Dan, a member of a species referred to as the Shako aliens and also known as the Dover Demon because of his resemblance to the cryptid reported in Dover, Massachusetts. His original name, Penichinkos, is considered inappropriate in human language, so he lives on Earth under the alias Henshin, usually shortened to Peni. In everyday life he disguises himself as a middle-aged human man, but his true form has an oval head, large eyes, and slender limbs resembling a mantis shrimp.
His central motivation is his child, Chiquitita, who suffers from an illness requiring expensive treatment. Peni came to Earth to earn money for that treatment and was initially hired by the Serpo aliens as a gig worker and combatant, fighting Momo, Okarun, and their allies. Despite his comical appearance and speech pattern, which includes ending his sentences with the peculiar phrase deisu, he is a devoted and self-sacrificing father, willing to endure great danger to protect his child. His blend of humor and genuine parental warmth is a defining trait, and he is noted for breathing with lungs despite his nonhuman appearance.
