Description
Kimika Saeki is the 34-year-old captain of the Special Vehicles Section 2 (SV-2) in the Patlabor EZY series. Hailing from Miyagi Prefecture, she was born on January 28th. As the commanding officer of the unit, Saeki is a respected veteran of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, known for her calm demeanor and ability to lead missions under significant pressure without losing her composure.

In terms of personality, Saeki is characterized by her steady and unflappable nature. She prefers quiet days where nothing out of the ordinary occurs, and her professional motto is that having no incidents to report is far preferable to earning personal accolades. Despite this preference for tranquility, she possesses a shrewd and resilient quality, occasionally making cryptic or ambiguous comments that allow her to navigate tricky situations at her own pace. While she may appear exasperated by the rough-around-the-edges members of her platoon, she sees their potential and believes they can become great officers with proper guidance, finding their growth potential endearing.

Saeki’s primary role is as the field commander of SV-2, a unit tasked with combating Labor-related crimes in a 2030s Japan where such machines have become commonplace infrastructure. She serves as a reliable, big-sister-like figure to her subordinates, supporting them with a mixture of kindness and strictness when necessary. Her leadership style contrasts with previous commanders in the franchise, as she is portrayed as a motherly figure who looks after her crew rather than a manipulative strategist.

Key relationships are defined by her command over the eclectic members of the second platoon. She oversees pilots and coordinators such as Towa Kuga, Kippei Amatori, Saki Hirata, Akihiko Hazama, Yuta Yanai, and Yuzuki Hachikuma. Regarding development, Saeki’s portrayal is informed by her performance in the earlier short film Patlabor REBOOT, which solidified the creative team’s decision to cast her as the captain for this series. Her notable abilities include her strategic leadership, her psychological resilience characterized as nerves of steel, and her keen understanding of her team members' strengths and weaknesses, which allows her to effectively mold them into a cohesive unit.
