Description
Ophilia is a supporting character in the anime The Unaware Atelier Master. She is an adult woman with very long blue hair and yellow eyes, and she holds the rare title of Atelier Meister, a distinction shared by only sixteen master crafters in the entire country. The title marks her as a highly accomplished operator of a magical research and crafting workshop.
Before the events of the story, Ophilia served as the royal tutor of Liselotte, the third princess of the kingdom of Homuross. When Liselotte became the target of assassination attempts by members of the Homuross nobility and the Demon King, and a curse was placed on the princess that would have slowly starved her to death, Ophilia took Liselotte in for her protection. The princess's survival carries political weight because her existence serves as a living link between two powerful nations.
Ophilia is presented as a seasoned figure within her field, and her decision to shield a princess marked for assassination indicates a willingness to take on considerable personal risk for the sake of someone in her care. Her central motivation is the safety of Liselotte, and her role in the narrative revolves around sheltering the cursed princess while maintaining her own workshop. In the broader story, she connects the atelier world, in which the protagonist operates, to the royal conflict over Liselotte's fate.
Her most significant relationship is with Liselotte, whom she once taught and later protects. She also develops a mentor relationship with the protagonist, Kurt, whom she guides in the atelier craft. Through this guidance, she plays a direct part in Kurt eventually attaining the rank of Atelier Meister himself, becoming the seventeenth master of the country.
Ophilia's development follows a path from royal tutor to protector of a hunted princess and finally to mentor of a new generation of crafters. Her notable abilities lie in her mastery of the atelier discipline: as one of only sixteen Atelier Meisters, she possesses the knowledge and skill required to run a magical research and crafting workshop, and her training of Kurt demonstrates a deep command of the craft that she is able to pass on to others.
