Description
Otojirō Kawakami, an actor and leader of the Kawakami theatrical troupe, originates from Fukuoka prefecture. To financially sustain his theater, he secretly works as a cross-dressing geisha under the alias Otoyakko, a name blending "sound" (音) with "guy" or "servant" (奴) to signify his dual life. Despite his feminine geisha role, he possesses a distinctly masculine personality and often acts as a protective older brother figure to those younger. Personable and caring, his hobbies revolve around acting, complemented by a special skill in cosmetics essential for his performances. He harbors a dislike for policemen.

Standing 177 cm tall and weighing 67 kg, Otojirō first encounters Mei Ayazuki in distress and offers her shelter at his geisha lodging. He later invites her to train as a geisha at his okiya, where she stays temporarily. As Mei gains popularity with male clients, including playwright Kyōka Izumi, Otojirō develops visible jealousy, complicating their dynamic. Kyōka, a frequent visitor, supplies scripts for the troupe, though Otojirō often appropriates them forcefully for performances. During rehearsals for Kyōka's play about a water goddess whose emergence floods a village, Otojirō nearly loses himself to the character's intensity, averted only by Mei's intervention.

His story culminates in a successful theater performance. Following a positive outcome, he invites Mei to join his troupe's international endeavors in America, marking a new chapter for the mobile group. Throughout his journey, Otojirō balances artistic ambitions, financial struggles, and evolving relationships while navigating the complexities of his concealed geisha identity.
