Description
Iruma Suzuki is the central protagonist of his story, a human boy who finds himself navigating the perilous yet often whimsical hierarchy of the demon world. He is fourteen years old at the start of the narrative, with a small stature of 158 centimeters, an androgynous appearance, and distinctive antenna-like strands of hair. His birthday is October 4th. Iruma's background is defined by profound neglect. His biological parents were selfish and exploitative, frequently burdening him with dangerous part-time jobs and showing him no affection. Their irresponsibility culminates when they sell him to a demon for a trivial sum, an act Iruma accepts not out of desperation, but due to a deep-seated, almost pathological inability to refuse any request from another person.

This defining personality trait is the direct consequence of his traumatic childhood. Having grown up as an extreme people-pleaser to survive, Iruma is instinctively kind, selfless, and finds it nearly impossible to say no when someone asks for help. He is naturally timid and initially harbors a strong desire to live a quiet, unobtrusive life, primarily to avoid being discovered as a human and subsequently eaten. Despite his fearfulness, he possesses a remarkable mental resilience, allowing him to bounce back from setbacks and face dangerous situations with a surprising level of pragmatism. His core motivation evolves significantly over time. While he begins with no personal ambitions, simply wishing to survive and not stand out, exposure to friendship and a caring family awakens in him a powerful desire to protect his new life. He resolves to "save everything" and refuses to abandon anything precious to him, a drive that eventually leads him to entertain the possibility of becoming the next Demon King in order to shape a kinder demon world.

In the story, Iruma is an anomaly, a human secretly enrolled as a special student at Babyls Demon School under the care of his adoptive grandfather, the demon chairman Sullivan. He is placed in the Misfit Class, a group of seemingly problematic students. Despite his attempts to remain inconspicuous, his innate heroism and unique skills repeatedly thrust him into the spotlight. He becomes a unifying force and a candidate for the demon throne, not through a desire for power, but through his ability to inspire loyalty and change in those around him. His key relationships are central to his development. With Sullivan, he finds a genuinely loving and doting grandfather for the first time, which helps him understand familial affection. He forms an unbreakable bond with Alice Asmodeus, a powerful demon who, after being defeated by Iruma, pledges himself as Iruma's loyal spear and best friend. He also befriends Clara Valac, an energetic girl whose need for genuine friendship Iruma satisfies without ulterior motives, creating a deep and pure connection. The student council president, Ameri Azazel, becomes a pivotal figure who inadvertently teaches Iruma about ambition after he helps her translate a romance manga, leading to a mutual respect that hints at romance. His relationship with his summoned familiar, the strict teacher Kalego Naberius, is comically antagonistic, while his archery mentor, Barbatos Bachiko, provides tough but caring guidance.

Iruma undergoes significant development, transforming from a boy with no will of his own to an individual with clear aspirations. He learns to rely on his friends instead of hiding from his problems and embraces his life in the demon world, even as he struggles with the secret of his humanity. A notable aspect of his growth is the "Wicked Phase," a temporary personality shift induced by the spirit of his ring where he becomes confident, assertive, and strategically ruthless—the opposite of his usual self—yet still cannot refuse a request. Regarding abilities, Iruma has no innate magical power as a human. However, his difficult upbringing granted him extraordinary crisis evasion skills, allowing him to dodge attacks with seemingly supernatural reflexes. He is also a survival expert and has a surprisingly large appetite. To compensate for his lack of magic, he wears the Ring of Gluttony, which stores immense magical power and houses a sentient spirit named Ali-san. Through training with Bachiko, he becomes a highly skilled archer, capable of firing powerful magical arrows. His defensive capabilities are near-limitless, though he possesses almost no offensive abilities of his own, relying on his wits, his ring, and his allies in combat.
