Description
Haruka Kiyomine is one of the primary characters in Oblivion Battery, known as a genius pitcher whose talent sets him apart from his peers. He was born on December 10th, making his zodiac sign Sagittarius, and stands at 185cm tall with B blood type. From his time in middle school, he formed one half of the legendary battery along with his childhood friend and catcher, Kei Kaname. Their partnership was so dominant that they were feared throughout the league, earning a reputation for crushing the spirits of their opponents and making many talented players consider quitting baseball altogether. Despite receiving offers from over seventy prestigious baseball schools, Haruka chose to enroll at the unremarkable public Kotesashi High School solely so he could continue playing alongside Kei, even after Kei lost his memories.

Haruka's personality is defined by a striking contrast between his stoic exterior and his fierce inner drive. He presents himself as calm, aloof, and largely indifferent to the world around him. This behavior stems from a habit developed in childhood to avoid encouraging the excessive attention of his older brother. He rarely shows emotion and has little interest in social interactions, often forgetting the names and faces of opponents he has easily defeated. However, this apparent indifference masks an intensely competitive nature. He is a sore loser who becomes visibly irritated when someone manages to hit his pitches, and he possesses a fiery determination to always be the best, whether on the pitcher's mound, at the plate, or even in trivial contests. His focus is remarkably narrow, as he only truly cares about throwing the ball and playing baseball with Kei Kaname, leaving most other responsibilities, including team management and daily logistics, to others.

In the story, Haruka's primary motivation is to restore the bond and partnership he once had with Kei. He followed his amnesiac friend to Kotesashi High School with the specific goal of using his own pitching to jog Kei's memory and bring him back to the sport they both loved. He is the anchor of the newly formed baseball club, serving as its ace pitcher and star batter. His unwavering dedication to Kei serves as a catalyst for the plot, drawing other former prodigies who had quit baseball, such as Aoi Todo and Shunpei Chihaya, back into the game. While he is a man of few words, his actions on the field consistently demonstrate his leadership and commitment to winning, even if he is not a traditional, vocal captain.

His key relationships are almost entirely defined by his connection to Kei. The two form a battery so symbiotic that Kei is the only catcher who can fully handle Haruka's most powerful pitches. Their relationship is complex, with flashbacks suggesting they were under constant pressure to win, and Kei acted as a tamer or manager for the stoic pitcher. In his amnesiac state, Kei becomes childish and whiny, yet Haruka remains loyal and patient, using unconventional methods like bribing him with his older brother's extensive porn collection to keep him engaged with the team. He also develops a petty rivalry with teammate Aoi Todo, and his blunt honesty when he admits to not remembering other former rivals like Shunpei and Aoi ultimately becomes a challenge that reignites their competitive spirits.

Haruka shows subtle development over the course of the series. Initially, he appears as an invincible and untouchable genius, but his time at Kotesashi High begins to change him. Playing with others who challenge him and who have also faced personal defeats slowly forces him to become more engaged with his teammates. There is a notable shift in his behavior when glimpses of Kei's old self return, at which point he transforms from an aloof ally into someone more obedient and reliant on his partner, highlighting that his cool demeanor is partly a product of their partnership. He also begins to show signs of academic improvement outside of baseball, indicating a gradual broadening of his character beyond being just a prodigy athlete.

As a player, Haruka Kiyomine is an elite two-way talent, excelling as both a pitcher and a batter. On the mound, his pitching is incredibly fast, precise, and consistent. By his first year of high school, his fastball was already clocked at 148 km/h. His primary pitching style is overhand, and he avoids using a windup to minimize unnecessary movement, a technique suggested by Kei. His arsenal of pitches includes a high-speed fastball, a high-speed slider, a slow curveball, and he eventually develops a splitter as well. His pitches are so powerful that only catchers of exceptional skill, like Kei, Aoi Todo, or Shunpei Chihaya, can catch them without difficulty. At the plate, he is equally formidable, capable of driving in runs as a clean-up hitter, making him a constant threat to opposing teams and an overwhelming presence on the field.
