Description
Kazuki Tsuchiya is a student at Kotesashi High School and plays as the center fielder for its baseball team. He is a second-year student who stands 169 centimeters tall, has purple eyes and matching purple hair, and was born on November 17, making his zodiac sign Scorpio. On the field, he is a right-handed player who wears jersey number 8 and uses a glove purchased from a discount store.

Kazuki's background is defined by a deep passion for baseball that was undermined by a negative experience in the competitive environment of his junior high school team. Overwhelmed by the rigid hierarchy and high-pressure atmosphere, he quit playing in what he calls the "3D" world. Despite this setback, his love for the sport never faded. Instead, he channeled it into the "2D" realm, becoming an avid fan of baseball video games, anime, and other facets of otaku culture. He views online otaku communities as ideal, egalitarian spaces where factors like age and social standing are irrelevant, a stark contrast to the unpleasant realities he faced in organized sports.

As a result of this history, Kazuki is initially characterized by his shy, introverted, and hesitant nature. He lacks confidence and is prone to giving up easily when faced with pressure or situations that remind him of his past trauma. He is recruited to the Kotesashi High team through the persistent efforts of his classmates Kei Kaname and Shunpei Chihaya. Kei discovers Kazuki on the school rooftop, where both are trying to escape the pressures of baseball practice. Despite losing a video game bet, Kei enthusiastically drags the reluctant Kazuki to the field, and Shunpei recognizes his untapped potential.

Kazuki’s primary contribution to the team is his extraordinary speed, which rivals that of Shunpei Chihaya, who is known for his own quickness. While he lacks physical strength and his hitting ability is limited, forcing him to bat ninth in the lineup, his running speed makes him a valuable asset on the base paths. He also demonstrates a natural talent for defensive plays, such as making jumping catches in the outfield, a skill he discovers after joining the team and which provides him with a surprising sense of joy and accomplishment.

Throughout the story, Kazuki's role evolves from a traumatized observer to a committed and increasingly confident team member. He is particularly awed by Kei Kaname, adopting the habit of referring to him as "Kei-sama" and describing his strategic focus as "Chishou mode," which he compares favorably to a compelling anime plot. He develops a strong on-field partnership with Shunpei Chihaya, with their combined speed allowing for disruptive tactics like the double steal, which proved decisive in a key match against Teitoku High. The consistent encouragement and recognition of his potential from his new teammates provide the positive reinforcement he needs to slowly overcome his past fears and rediscover the joy of playing baseball in the real world.
