Description
Maggie is a supporting character in the anime Dekin no Mogura: The Earthbound Mole, appearing as the ghost of a lesser panda, also known as a red panda. In life, Maggie was a popular resident of the Gomoku Animal Park, where Yaeko Kirihara, a major red panda enthusiast, was among his human admirers. Following his death, Maggie did not immediately pass on to the afterlife, instead manifesting as a spirit with significant supernatural energy.

In terms of personality, Maggie is characterized by a timid and extremely wary nature, being easily frightened by unfamiliar things and situations. This skittishness is a core trait, as he is often depicted as a scared and anxious spirit. However, beneath this fearful exterior lies a strong sense of loyalty and protectiveness. Despite his own nervous disposition, Maggie is devoted to protecting the person he bonds with, acting as a guardian spirit.

Maggie's role in the story begins when he takes up residence at a 100-yen shop called 100 Yen HOME, where the character Kuriaki Magi works part-time. The presence of Maggie’s ghostly energy causes a series of strange phenomena, including poltergeist activity where objects move on their own, and sleep paralysis in people nearby. This disturbance leads to an exorcism attempt by members of the Nekozuku family, professional spirit hunters. During the confrontation, Maggie is cornered but ends up possessing someone who bears a strong resemblance to him, which helps resolve the situation. It is at this moment that Maggie becomes especially drawn to Kuriaki Magi, sensing a kindred spirit in him. Consequently, Maggie escapes the exorcism and settles into his new role as Magi's constant companion and guardian spirit. Because of Maggie's powerful spiritual energy, Magi is able to face supernatural dangers with a greater degree of safety. Ghost-hunters and others sensitive to the paranormal also come to rely on Maggie's unique way of sensing spiritual energy, as he raises both of his front paws in a classic "threat pose," which serves as a very handy and reliable signal for detecting ghostly presences.

Key relationships define Maggie's existence in the story. His most significant bond is with Kuriaki Magi, whom he regards as both a friend and a charge to protect. The two share a deep connection, and Maggie's loyalty to Magi is unwavering, even as his quirky and timid behaviors provide frequent moments of comic relief. In a playful nod to this partnership, Maggie's appearance has changed to resemble Magi, including now wearing a pair of glasses. Maggie's journey also involves a past connection to Yaeko Kirihara, who adored him when he was alive at the zoo, though Maggie seems to prefer his new companion.

Over the course of the narrative, Maggie develops from a troublesome poltergeist causing chaos into an indispensable and beloved member of Magi's circle. Though still a "scaredy-cat" by nature, his loyalty and unusual abilities make him an invaluable ally. He confronts ghostly challenges alongside Magi, and their bond deepens as they face supernatural threats together. As a spirit, Maggie possesses several notable abilities. He can create poltergeist activity, moving objects without physical contact, and can induce sleep paralysis in others. In moments of crisis, he is able to cast a protective barrier to defend both himself and Magi. His signature threat pose, while born of fright, has become an effective tool for indicating the presence of other spiritual entities.
