Description
Kyōshirō Nekozuku is a high school senior from the anime Dekin no Mogura: The Earthbound Mole. He is a member of the Nekozuku family, a long line of exorcists who have used bound supernatural cats to combat spirits for generations. Kyōshirō himself is training to become a full-fledged exorcist and is the heir to this family tradition. He carries a spiritual cat named Nabeshima, which clings to him and constantly drains his stamina, leaving him with a lean, perpetually undernourished physique. This physical frailty is a defining trait shared by all male Nekozuku exorcists.

Personality-wise, Kyōshirō is meticulous, serious, and easily exasperated. He often adopts a no-nonsense, sarcastic tone when dealing with the eccentric characters around him, particularly the immortal Mogura and his friends. Despite his prickly exterior and tendency to sigh in frustration, he is not truly antisocial. He shows a grudging willingness to help others and gradually reveals a sense of duty and hidden warmth. His primary motivation is to uphold his family’s exorcist responsibilities and to master the use of Nabeshima, both to purge malignant spirits and to prove his own competence.

Within the story, Kyōshirō serves as a supporting character who provides exorcism expertise and a practical counterbalance to Mogura’s unorthodox methods. He often collaborates with the main trio—Magi, Yaeko, and Mogura—especially when a spirit problem requires a more aggressive approach than Mogura’s usual negotiation. His key relationships include his father, Tōshirō Nekozuku, a professor and renowned exorcist who also carries a bound cat; his mother, Kyōko, who has no spiritual powers but a calming presence; and his classmate Shio Inukai, who attends the same school. He also develops a professional and sometimes comedic rapport with Mogura, whom he initially views as a shady troublemaker but later respects as a powerful ally.

Over the course of the series, Kyōshirō shows modest development. He becomes slightly more open and less reliant on his defensive sarcasm, learning to cooperate more smoothly with the group. His notable abilities center around the use of Nabeshima, whom he can command to attack spirits or perform exorcisms. He also possesses a deep knowledge of Japanese folklore and the mechanics of spiritual possession, inherited from his family’s generations of experience. His constant hunger and thinness, caused by the cat siphoning his vitality, are both a comic trait and a reminder of the personal cost of his exorcist lineage.
