Description
Haruna Amaori is a major character in the story and serves as the younger sister of the protagonist, Renako Amaori. A student in her second year of middle school, Haruna is an active member of the badminton club, a role that showcases her strong athletic ability and energetic disposition. Standing at 160 cm, she is slightly taller than her older sister, a physical detail that complements her confident and outgoing presence.

In stark contrast to Renako’s naturally introverted and anxious personality, Haruna is an archetypal normie, or socially adept individual. She is outgoing, socially savvy, and possesses excellent communication skills, finding it easy to approach new people and actively exchange contact information with them. Her personality is marked by a straightforward and sometimes blunt manner of speaking, and Renako often describes her as being bratty or harsh. However, this tough love is recognized by her sister as stemming from a place of genuine care, as Haruna’s sharp comments are intended to push Renako out of her comfort zone for her own benefit.

Haruna’s most significant role in the narrative is as the architect of Renako’s high school debut. After Renako had a traumatic and isolating experience in middle school, it was Haruna who stepped in to provide special training to help her sister build a new, more sociable persona. This training included selecting stylish clothes, learning about makeup, and critiquing Renako’s nervous habits, such as her rapid blabbering, to refine her communication skills. Despite being the younger sibling, Haruna often acts more maturely and played a pivotal part in encouraging Renako to not give up and to move forward with her goal of a fresh start.

The relationship between the two sisters is a complex mix of casual teasing and deep, underlying affection. On the surface, Haruna treats Renako roughly, making blunt remarks and jokes at her expense; for instance, she used to think that if her sister ever got a boyfriend, he would likely be some bad guy who tricked her. Yet, in reality, Renako is very precious to her. Haruna proudly introduces her sister to her own friends, proving her genuine admiration and pride. Her constant proximity to Renako has, over time, turned her into a considerable siscon—a person with an intensely strong attachment to her sister, a trait that readers have noted as being so heavy that it could be dangerous to anyone who truly wronged Renako. This bond is characterized by mutual support and shines through in moments of vulnerability, where Haruna’s encouragement helps Renako persevere.

Haruna is also highly suspicious of the true nature of Renako’s relationships with her close friends, particularly Mai Ouzuka. Finding it surreal that her once-introverted sister is friends with a glamorous and overpowering personality like Mai, Haruna doubts that their bond is purely platonic and has jokingly referred to Mai as her sister-in-law. Despite her own outgoing nature, Haruna admits that being alone with Mai would be too overwhelming for her, suggesting she views Mai as an exceptionally intense presence. Furthermore, because multiple women have introduced themselves as Renako’s lovers, Haruna has become convinced that her sister is secretly dating several people at once, a misunderstanding that fuels a humorous dynamic of shock and exasperation between the siblings.

Beyond her social and athletic talents, Haruna has a keen interest in fashion and aesthetics. She is particular about her appearance, carefully choosing stylish and cute pajamas and accessories, which she purchases with her own allowance, displaying a sense of independence and pride in her self-expression. Her polished look is a source of frustration for Renako, who finds that even though she wakes up much earlier to get ready, Haruna somehow always finishes faster and looks more put-together. Her combination of confidence, social grace, and a teasing but deeply caring nature makes her a key supporting character in the comedic and emotional narrative.
