Description
Aries is a significant character from the anime and light novel series, serving as one of the Twelve Heavenly Stars of Conquest under the rule of Ruphas Mafahl, where he holds the position corresponding to the constellation of the Ram. His species is an extremely rare Rainbow Sheep, a type of monster normally considered one of the weakest in the world and primarily hunted for its valuable wool, which is so profitable that owning one is said to guarantee wealth for seven generations. Before being tamed, Aries lived a life of constant fear and flight from predators and hunters, surviving as prey at the bottom of the food chain. This changed when he encountered Ruphas before she became known as the Conquering Overlord; she took him in, trained him, and gave him the strength and purpose he lacked, elevating him from a production-use servant monster to a powerful member of her elite forces.
In terms of appearance, Aries has two distinct forms. His true monster form is that of a gigantic Rainbow Sheep, reaching approximately one hundred meters in size, with wool that burns with rainbow-colored flames when he fights seriously. He has also learned the technique of humanization, which allows him to take on a humanoid form. This form is that of a small, adorable, and seemingly young girl with a soft, innocent aura and rainbow-colored hair. Despite his feminine and girlish appearance, Aries is unequivocally male, a fact that often shocks those who discover it. This androgynous design is not his own choice but the result of a casual character edit decision made by Ruphas when she obtained the humanization arts as a Monster Tamer; the future member of the Seven Heroes, Mizar, suggested making him a beautiful girl, insisting that traps are the trend, directly leading to his current look.
Personality-wise, Aries is known for being gentle, kind, mild, and usually calm, especially in comparison to some of the more intense members of the Twelve Heavenly Stars. He is generally approachable and easier to reason with, making him one of the more level-headed members of the group. However, his priorities are completely skewed toward his master, Ruphas. His devotion is extreme and absolute, following a hierarchy where Ruphas is first, second, third, and fourth, with others, mostly his own companions, coming in a distant fifth. As a sheep-type monster, he is fundamentally a herd creature, meaning he tends to follow the leader of his flock without question; if the leader goes astray, he will naturally go astray as well. This instinct explains how he could be manipulated by Mars into attacking the country of Svel, which was governed by the traitor Megrez. Upon reuniting with Ruphas, however, he recovered his memories of his true role and called off the invasion, rejoining her as a follower with his loyalty reaffirmed. His gratitude to Ruphas for saving him from a life of being hunted has remained unshaken for over two hundred years, forming the basis of his unbreakable loyalty.
Regarding his role in the story, Aries is the first Heavenly Star to appear before Ruphas after her revival two hundred years after her defeat at the hands of the Seven Heroes. He is initially an antagonist, having been led astray, but quickly returns to her side. Within the Twelve Heavenly Stars, his role in battle is that of a specialist who uses unique, percentage-based skills to punch far above his weight, rather than relying on raw power. He deeply resents the Seven Heroes who betrayed Ruphas and holds a grudge against them for harming the one who saved him. He is fond of Ruphas and his fellow Heavenly Stars, regarding them as his precious companions, but his interest in outsiders is practically nonexistent. Within the group, he gets along particularly well with Aigokeros, Taurus, and Karkinos, who are comrades connected to Ruphas earlier adventuring days. However, there is notable friction with Leon, the Leo, who is the strongest beast among the Twelve; Leon dislikes being considered on the same tier as Aries, whom he views as biologically one of the weakest monsters.
Aries notable abilities center around devastating percentage-damage skills that make him a threat to even the most powerful enemies, despite his relatively low combat stats. His base level is 800, which can rise to 1000 when he uses the power of Alkaid. His primary parameters, such as HP, attack, and defense, are considered on the lower end among the Heavenly Stars, but his unique skills more than compensate. His signature skill is Mesarthim, a terrifying ability that continuously harms an opponent as long as Aries maintains physical contact; the damage scales with the targets HP and vitality, up to a maximum of 99,999, earning it the nickname Flame that Kills Gods. Another skill, Earthquake, allows him to trigger seismic shocks to shake the battlefield and topple enemies. His most powerful skill is Hamal, which is available only when he is at level 1000. When activated, it deals damage equal to fifty percent of the targets maximum HP in a single blow. While a damage cap in the world normally limits displayed damage, under special conditions where this cap can be bypassed, Hamal becomes absurdly powerful. It can halve an enemys maximum HP and, with further combinations, potentially leave them on the verge of defeat. The true terror of Hamal appears when combined with Karkinos enhancement skill Altarf; with this synergy, even Leon, the strongest of the Twelve Heavenly Stars, can be forced to his knees in a single strike. In combat, Aries typically coats his fists in the flames of Mesarthim for fiery close-quarters pummeling or envelops his entire body in rainbow flames to charge into enemies. In his true monster form, he uses his enormous size to crush opponents, breathe fire, and ram them with his burning body.
