Description
Misato Kuroi is a supporting character who appears in the Hidden Inventory arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, set twelve years before the main timeline. She is the caretaker and personal attendant of Riko Amanai, the Star Plasma Vessel. Kuroi comes from a family that has served the Star Plasma Vessel for generations. Initially resistant to this inherited duty, she left home to attend junior college with the intention of becoming a school nurse. However, after meeting the infant Riko, she felt drawn to her and chose to return and take on the role. When Riko’s parents died in an accident when she was four years old, Kuroi became her primary guardian, effectively acting as her only family.
Kuroi is a kind, warm, and deeply protective woman. She cares for Riko far beyond a professional obligation, treating her with the affection one would show a younger sister or daughter. She is gentle and nurturing in her daily interactions, but she becomes fiercely serious and combative when anyone threatens Riko. Her motivations are rooted in love and loyalty; she wants to ensure Riko’s safety and happiness in the time they have together, even knowing that Riko’s fate is to merge with Master Tengen. She accepts the mission, but she does so with a heavy sense of sorrow and resignation, choosing to make Riko’s remaining days as normal and joyful as possible.
In the story, Kuroi acts as Riko’s protector and emotional anchor during a dangerous escort mission. She works alongside the young sorcerers Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, but her primary focus is always on Riko. Her key relationship is with Riko, whom she has raised and bonded with intimately over many years. She also interacts with Gojo and Geto as temporary allies, though she maintains a respectful distance. Her development lies in her quiet struggle between her personal desire to keep Riko safe and her acceptance of the unavoidable sacrifice. She supports Riko fully even as she grieves the approaching loss.
Kuroi does not possess an innate cursed technique, but she has trained in basic cursed energy manipulation and hand-to-hand combat. She is capable of fighting off weak cursed users and non-sorcerer attackers, using ordinary objects such as a mop as improvised weapons. Her skills are enough to handle minor threats, but she is outmatched against experienced curse users and especially against the Sorcerer Killer Toji Fushiguro.
Her ultimate fate is left ambiguous in the story. During Toji’s attack on the school, Kuroi is separated from Riko and is last seen incapacitated. When Geto asks about her whereabouts, Toji gives a vague response, saying she is likely dead but might have survived if she was lucky. Her body is never shown, and the official fan book does not list a confirmed age at death, leaving her survival an open question.
