Description
Haruka Hasebe is a student who initially belongs to Class 1-D and later Class 2-D at the Advanced Nurturing High School. Her student ID number is S01T004747 and her birthday is on November 5. She is known for her attractive and somewhat mature appearance, featuring waist-length blue hair with bangs brushed to either side, orange eyes, and a noticeable mole beneath her left eye. She also has a well-endowed figure, which is a source of unwanted attention and personal discomfort for her. Her typical school uniform is often worn with the top button undone and her tie loosely fastened.

In her first year, Haruka largely keeps to herself and values her solitude, which is her defective trait in the school's judgment due to her nervousness around strangers. She prefers not to get involved in unnecessary trouble, as shown when she chooses to sit out a class swimming session. Despite this guarded exterior with most people, she is very different with those she considers true friends. Haruka is frank, honest with her feelings, and can be quite chatty and playful once she is comfortable with someone. A distinct habit is giving close friends cute nicknames; she famously calls Kiyotaka Ayanokōji Kiyopon or Ayanon and refers to Kikyō Kushida as Kyō-chan. She enjoys teasing her close companions but is also sincere and will offer a genuine apology if she realizes her words have hurt someone. Although she is a loyal friend, she can be stubborn and holds onto her own beliefs, sometimes even refusing to listen to alternative perspectives.

Originally a loner, Haruka becomes a central member of the Ayanokōji Group, a study and social circle she helps establish during the first year. The group includes Kiyotaka Ayanokōji, Airi Sakura, Akito Miyake, and Teruhiko Yukimura. Her role within the story is largely defined by her deep bonds with this group, especially with Airi Sakura, who becomes her best friend. While she has never been in love, she secretly acknowledges that Kiyotaka Ayanokōji fits her image of the ideal guy, particularly after he demonstrates his physical abilities in the sports festival. However, aware of Airi's intense feelings for Kiyotaka, Haruka chooses to suppress her own ambiguous emotions and instead becomes Airi's most ardent supporter and protector. She proactively helps Airi become bolder, even encouraging her to wear a daring swimsuit while wearing one herself, and confronts Kiyotaka to understand his feelings towards her friend, believing that love would help Airi grow.

The second semester of her second year brings a profound and devastating change. During the Unanimous Vote Special Exam, the class is forced to choose one student for expulsion. In a shocking turn, Kiyotaka nominates Airi Sakura due to her low overall evaluation, a proposal that is ultimately accepted by the class. Haruka is enraged and heartbroken by what she sees as a complete betrayal by Kiyotaka. She is the only one to fiercely oppose the decision, even nominating herself for expulsion in Airi's place, but her attempt fails. The loss of her best friend leads to an emotional collapse. She isolates herself from school for an entire week and the Ayanokōji Group disintegrates. Upon returning, her personality is colored by a desire for revenge against Kiyotaka and Suzune Horikita, whom she holds responsible for Airi's expulsion.

In her grief, Haruka and Akito Miyake, the only group member who stays by her side, plan to take revenge on the class by having both of them drop out, which would cause a significant loss of class points. During this dark period, Kiyotaka confronts her by suggesting her care for Airi was not purely altruistic but was also a way for her to feel superior by protecting someone weaker than herself—an accusation she reluctantly admits might be true. The path to her recovery begins when she receives a package from the expelled Airi, containing a maid dress, and learns that Airi has returned to work as a gravure idol under the name Shizuku and is living her life with determination. Seeing her friend moving forward inspires Haruka to do the same. She abandons her revenge plan, resolves to stay at the school, and sets a new goal for herself: to work hard and graduate from Class A, so she can one day meet Airi again with pride.

In terms of abilities, Haruka is a solidly average student. Her official OAA (Overall Ability Assessment) scores reflect a C grade in both Academic Ability and Physical Ability. She performs well in science and mathematics but struggles more with world history and language subjects. Her true weaknesses lie in her quick thinking and social contribution, which are rated lower and hamper her in the school's strategic and political games. Her notable abilities are not in academics or physical feats, but in her steadfast loyalty and her capacity for deep emotional connection, which, while a source of great pain, also ultimately becomes the catalyst for her personal growth.
