TV-Series
Description
Honami Ichinose is a central female character in the story who begins as a first-year student and class leader of Class 1-B at Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School. By the second year, she and her class are first promoted to Class 2-B before eventually falling to Class 2-D. Standing at 159 centimeters tall with a birthday of July 20, her student ID is S01T004620. Upon entering the school, her OAA evaluation rated her Academic Ability at A, Intelligence at A, Judgment at B, Physical Ability at C, and Teamwork or Social Contribution at A-. Despite this high evaluation, she was assigned to Class B rather than Class A due to a prolonged absence from school during her third year of junior high.

Her background before coming to the school has a significant impact on her character. Honami comes from a single-parent family, raised by her mother alongside a younger sister who is two years her junior. In her third year of middle school, her mother became ill and was hospitalized. Wanting to give her sister a birthday present, she stole a hair clip from a store after finding no other way to obtain it. Her mother discovered the theft, forced her to return the item and apologize, which left Honami with deep psychological trauma. She became a shut-in and did not attend school for nearly half a year. This incident is a core part of her past, and the guilt and shame from it shaped her desire to start over and be an honest person.

Personality-wise, Honami is known for her cheerful, outgoing, and genuinely kind nature. She is described as a pacifist who opposes underhanded tactics and violence, preferring to resolve conflicts through communication and cooperation. Her kindness is extreme, as she is unwilling to sacrifice anyone for the sake of victory and has even been known to proactively help rival classes. This benevolent approach makes her deeply loved by her classmates, who trust her implicitly and see her as the pillar of their class. However, this same trait has been identified as a weakness. Ryuen Kakeru once commented that while she would be a fantastic friend or subordinate, her naivety makes her unsuitable as a ruthless leader. Her homeroom teacher, Chie Hoshinomiya, also recognizes that although she is diligent and kind, she is also naive and inexperienced, a flaw that ultimately prevents her class from advancing effectively.

Her motivations are rooted in protecting her classmates and maintaining the unity of her class without resorting to expulsion. She has stated that she will not let a single one of her classmates be expelled, a goal she works toward even when it puts her class at a disadvantage in the school's competitions. This desire to protect everyone stems from her personal history and her wish to move forward without causing harm to others. In the second year, after developing romantic feelings for Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, her motivations become further complicated as she wrestles with protecting her class versus protecting him.

Honami plays a significant role as a rival leader to the other class representatives. In the first year, she led Class B with a focus on cohesion and mutual support. Her class was known for having the best internal atmosphere, in contrast to the dictatorial styles of other leaders. However, her inability to make tough, cutthroat decisions led to repeated defeats. By the end of the second year, as her classmate Ryuji Kanzaki had predicted, her class fell from Class B to Class D. She also becomes a key figure in the student council, serving under the student council president Miyabi Nagumo.

Key relationships define much of her story. Her relationship with Kiyotaka Ayanokoji evolves from mutual respect and curiosity to romantic affection. She is one of the few students who quickly recognizes his hidden intelligence. After he helps her deal with a rumor spread about her past, she develops strong feelings for him and eventually confesses to him during the second year, only to later learn that he is already in a relationship with Kei Karuizawa. Despite this, she maintains a close connection with him. Within her own class, her relationship with Ryuji Kanzaki becomes strained as he grows frustrated with her gentle leadership and the class's resulting decline, though he continues to support her. She is also on good terms with her teacher, Chie Hoshinomiya, who both supports and worries about her leadership capabilities.

Her development throughout the series involves a gradual awakening to the harsh realities of the school's system. Initially, she firmly believed that kindness and cooperation alone could lead her class to victory. As her class suffers losses and eventually drops to Class D, her idealism is challenged. In the second year, this pressure begins to change her. Her feelings for Ayanokoji, combined with the pressure of her class's decline, lead to moments of jealousy and a darker, more aggressive edge that surprises even the other class leaders like Ryuen and Sakayanagi. She begins to shed some of her extreme naivety, realizing that she cannot afford to worry about trivial things and must become stronger to achieve her goals.

Honami possesses several notable abilities. Her greatest strength is her social intelligence and networking ability. She has built a vast web of connections across different classes and year levels, and she is capable of mediating disputes and bringing people together. Academically, she is excellent, having achieved the highest score on the entrance exam among all first-year students. She also has sharp intuition and insight, as demonstrated during the zodiac exam on the cruise ship when she was able to see through some of Kiyotaka Ayanokoji’s strategies. While her physical abilities are rated as average to below average, her endurance and determination in other areas compensate for this weakness.
