Description
Morio is a large, physically imposing rooster who appears later in the story of Rooster Fighter. He is a demon, but one with a gentle and loyal nature, often described as good-hearted. His background is tied to the defense of a specific territory before he joins the main group. Morio is characterized by immense durability and a defensive, grounded fighting style, contrasting with the raw offensive power of the protagonist Keiji. Despite his intimidating size, he is observant, speaks rarely but with weight, and provides much-needed muscle during large-scale battles against the monstrous Kijuu.
Morio's motivations center on protecting others, and he eventually finds a purpose in saving those in need. He initially acts as a stationary protector of his home, but over time he transitions into a proactive hunter, leaving his territory to join Keiji's crusade after realizing that some threats must be sought out and destroyed at their source.
In the story, Morio serves as a stabilizing force among the more volatile members of the group. He maintains a respectful distance from Keiji but is always ready to support him in combat. He is particularly patient with the young chick Piyoko, often allowing her to rest on his back during long journeys. A key event involves Morio being captured and controlled by a faction of villains known as the Devils, who use brain parasites to turn demons into puppets. Keiji and his allies are forced to find a way to save him without killing him, leading to a tense rescue mission where Piyoko enters Morio's body to remove the parasite. This event tests the bonds of the group and pushes Keiji to confront a problem he cannot solve with brute force alone.
Morio's development sees him grow from a solitary protector into a committed member of a roaming team, learning to trust and rely on others. His defensive abilities make him a crucial asset in large-scale engagements, and his quiet strength provides emotional steadiness for the group. His eventual sacrifice and subsequent possession become a catalyst for deeper character growth among his companions, particularly Piyoko, who proves her courage by saving him.
