Ze Gui, also called Taku Kei, is a 300-man commander in the Qin military's Hi Shin Unit. In his mid-to-late forties, he has black hair, brown skin, and a meek appearance contrasting his combat experience. Married with six children – his eldest a daughter, youngest a son – he hails from Furou Village, where he worked as a farmer before joining the army. His military career started as a 5-man squad leader, commanding a squad frequently mocked as the weakest. Yet, Ze Gui boasted an unbroken record: never losing a squad member. This focus on survival defined his leadership. During the Keiyou Campaign, he took command of a squad of "leftovers," including Ri Shin, Kyou Kai, Bi Hei, and Bi Tou. He stressed comrades entrusting their lives to each other, instructing them to stay within ten steps during battles to cover blind spots and fight as one. At the Battle of Dakan Plains, his commitment to unit preservation was clear when he saved Bi Hei in the initial clash. Witnessing Ri Shin's extraordinary actions, Ze Gui noted Shin operated on a different level. His squad later helped build corpse barricades under Kyou Kai's plan against chariots and joined the desperate charge toward the enemy general. Ze Gui continued serving under Ri Shin during the Battle of Bayou, where General Ouki officially named the unit Hi Shin. He provided newer recruits context on the Zhao military's historical animosity towards Qin stemming from the Chouhei incident. He supported Shin's decision to split the unit to pursue enemy commander Fuu Ki, acting as a stabilizing veteran. Personality-wise, Ze Gui is quiet and observant. Kyou Kai once noted he talks in his sleep. His development across campaigns consistently prioritizes squad survival and adaptability in high-risk combat, cementing his role as one of the Hi Shin Unit's longest-serving veterans.
