Description
Karurusu is a prince of the kingdom of Honyaraland, sent to Earth by his father, King Kamopapa, alongside his younger brother, Furanui. The stated purpose of this mission is for him to learn the duties of a ruler through direct experience, a lesson he approaches with a deliberately optimistic demeanor. He frames his project on Earth as a "tributary outreach program" dedicated to spreading happiness, a mission that stands in direct opposition to his brother's cynical focus on conquest through fear.
Physically, Karurusu possesses the ability to change his shape. His natural form is that of a yellow-furred otter with a distinctive star marking on his stomach. In his human guise, he appears as a young man with blond hair and lilac eyes, typically dressed in clothing inspired by Arab fashions, consisting of a two-piece outfit complemented by a headband that extends into a ponytail tipped with a star-shaped ornament.
In terms of personality, Karurusu often displays a childlike impulsiveness and becomes easily frustrated when his plans do not work out as intended. His unfamiliarity with the customs of Earth frequently leads to clashes, but beneath his initially pushy exterior lies a genuine effort to understand human emotions and social norms. He comes to realize that true happiness requires effort and cannot simply be imposed, a belief that drives him to develop methods such as "Happy Powder," a substance that can erase traumatic memories of battles while preserving feelings of contentment.
His role in the story is that of the catalyst who assembles and guides the five students from Binan High School. Initially, his methods are forceful and manipulative, including magically binding those who resist, as he turns them into his "Happy Kiss" magic knights. Over the course of the narrative, his character shows significant development. Witnessing the students' willingness to risk their lives for the sake of his family during a crisis involving King Kamopapa deepens his respect for humanity, prompting him to shift his approach from coercion to genuine collaboration.
Karurusu's key relationships are primarily with his brother Furanui and the knights he commands. The dynamic with his brother forms a core tension; although Karurusu is the older sibling, he is not automatically the crown prince, as succession depends on their father's evaluation of their kingly qualities. Despite this potential for rivalry, he harbors no resentment and prioritizes his familial bond. When danger threatens their father, his emotional breakdown reveals a deep vulnerability and attachment, and this event spurs his efforts toward sibling reconciliation, emphasizing his commitment to peaceful resolutions.
In terms of abilities, beyond his shape-shifting, Karurusu wields a variety of magical powers including elemental magic such as ice and fire, the ability to alter memories, and the capacity for interdimensional travel. He orchestrates the knights' transformations through a specific ritual requiring them to kneel and kiss his hand, an act that grants them celestial-themed weapons and the power of flight. During conflicts that arise from his brother's faction, he actively supports the knights, though his preference is always to resolve confrontations through emotional fulfillment rather than combat.
