Description
Anemone is a young human girl who appears in the story after being rescued from a difficult situation. She was originally an orphan who had been captured by a band of bandits, having been sold by her own parents before her rescue. At the age of twelve, she was saved by the protagonist Kenichi, after which she had nowhere else to go and began living with him. Her early life was marked by hardship, fear, and unfortunate circumstances, which shaped her initial wariness and sensitivity toward the people around her.
In terms of appearance, Anemone is a small child with purple or blue hair and blue eyes, typically dressed in a purple dress. Her young age is immediately apparent, and she carries herself with an expressiveness that grows as the story progresses.
Anemone's personality is a mixture of typical childhood traits and unusual behaviors stemming from her past trauma and her deep attachment to Kenichi. She displays a standard range of emotions for a child her age, but her most distinctive characteristic is that she sees herself as one of Kenichi's lovers rather than as his adopted daughter. Despite Kenichi viewing their relationship as a father-daughter bond, Anemone consistently declares herself to be his future wife, though the other characters tend to ignore these proclamations due to her being a child. She can be selfish and exhibit bratty behavior, particularly when she perceives Kenichi getting along well with other women, as she becomes jealous and tries to interfere with his love life. This possessiveness extends to specific romantic rivals, including Primula, whom she actively tries to prevent from getting closer to Kenichi.
Her primary motivation stems from gratitude and love for Kenichi, who saved her from the bandits. She clings to the idea of being his partner rather than his child, which drives many of her actions throughout the story. As she begins to learn to read and write under Kenichi's tutelage, her world expands, and she starts to find more things that she considers fun. Her motivations gradually evolve from simple survival and attachment to a desire to grow stronger and become an adventurer who can travel alongside Kenichi.
Within the story, Anemone serves as a key member of Kenichi's growing household. After being rescued, she remains with him even when given the option to be raised by someone else, insisting on staying by his side. She eventually awakens her magical talent and grows strong enough to wield powerful spells, setting her sights on becoming an adventurer. Her role transitions from a rescued victim to a developing mage and a central figure in the family unit that forms around Kenichi.
Anemone has several significant relationships that define her interactions. Her bond with Kenichi is the most important, as she loves him deeply for saving her, though her feelings are romantically oriented in a way that others find inappropriate for her age. With Primula, Anemone maintains a rivalrous dynamic, viewing her as a competitor for Kenichi's affection while Primula sees Anemone as an overly clingy brat; Primula frequently tries to explain that Anemone's behavior is not normal, but Anemone ignores these warnings. In contrast, she gets along very well with Myaley, whom she calls big sister, and they spend much time playing together. She also loves Vel, the family pet, and enjoys cuddling with her. Mary is described as her closest human friend and her only friend of the same age, and Anemone cares for her greatly.
Anemone undergoes notable development throughout the narrative. Having grown up in a poor family and experienced many sad and frightening events, she begins as a sensitive but reserved girl. As Kenichi teaches her to read and write and as she spends time with Primula and others, her emotional expressions become more varied and pronounced. She becomes more talkative and expressive, learning to experience joy and even engaging in playful rivalry with Primula over Kenichi. Her development is framed as a gradual opening up, where the kindness of those around her allows her to become more fully expressive and to grow into a potentially wonderful young woman.
Her notable abilities include magical aptitude as a mage, which is discovered after she comes to live with Kenichi. She awakens her magical talent and develops the strength to wield powerful spells, which is expected to play a significant role in her future adventures. This magical growth represents her progression from a helpless orphan to a capable individual with her own strengths and aspirations.
