Description
Daiki Sakai Mk. II is a supporting character who serves as a student at Asunaro High School and a former member of the student council, where he was in charge of general affairs alongside his colleague Kyoki Saiko. He made his debut in the manga's thirty-eighth chapter and was later introduced in the anime adaptation when the student council appeared in the story.
In terms of appearance, Daiki is of average height. He wears the school's standard black gakuran uniform with brown shoes, and underneath it, he has white sleeves that connect to white gloves featuring a hexagon design on the palm and brown fingertips. His most distinctive trait is the brown cardboard helmet he always wears, which hides his black hair. The helmet has painted white eyes, black lines, and the Roman numeral II written on the forehead. Among the student council members, he is notable for being the only one besides the president who wears the correct high school uniform properly, while others tend to wear theirs in a more loose or informal manner.
Daiki's personality is defined by his dedication to a robotic persona. He consistently acts like a robot, mimicking mechanical movements and vocalizations, often making whirring or beeping sounds to enhance the illusion. Despite being officially presented as an enigmatic robot with an unknown identity, the truth is that his helmet is simply a cardboard box placed over his head, and underneath it, he is an ordinary human being. The exact background or reason for his adoption of this peculiar identity has not been revealed. Like the rest of the student council members, he tends to slack off and ignore his official duties, showing a laid-back and carefree attitude toward responsibilities when not engaged in council activities.
Motivation-wise, Daiki appears primarily driven by a sense of camaraderie and respect for his fellow student council members, particularly the president. He maintains his robotic act consistently, suggesting a personal commitment to this chosen persona, though the underlying reasons remain unknown. He participates willingly in group activities and social events organized by the council.
In the story, Daiki fills the role of a background supporting character within the larger cast of the student council. The council itself represents a collection of typical manga cliches, and Daiki specifically embodies the trope of a character whose face is never seen. While his role is not central to the main plot involving the witch and ogre protagonists, he contributes to the comedic and chaotic energy of the student council scenes.
Daiki has several key relationships within the story. He holds great respect for Tenryu Kiyomiya, the student council president who recruited him, and shows appreciation and affection toward him, such as by participating in a surprise party organized for Tenryu by the council. With the other student council members, including Ibara Ibu, Yuzuru Kenmochi, Syrup, Kuromitsu, Riro Takumi, Burst, and Kyoki Saiko, he gets along well, considering them friends as well as colleagues. He often spends time with them outside of council duties. One notable relationship is his fear of Furan Tsugihagi, as he is concerned that she might take his seat on the student council because she is a genuine android, which could outshine his own act as a pretend robot.
Regarding development, Daiki remains a relatively static character whose primary feature is the maintenance of his robotic disguise. He is known to repair his cardboard helmet with cellophane tape when it becomes damaged, indicating that he actively preserves his chosen identity despite its fragility.
In terms of abilities, Daiki possesses no supernatural powers or magical capabilities. His only notable equipment is his cardboard robot mask, which serves no functional purpose other than hiding his face and supporting his robot act. His true abilities appear to be ordinary human ones, as he is ultimately just a student wearing a cardboard box.
