Description
The Mysterious Priest, known in some sources as Guitane, is a figure encountered by Babylon in the courtyard of a church within the Kingdom of Saloum. He presents himself as a long-serving clergyman devoted to the gods, yet he is oddly prone to forgetting his rosary, a symbol considered essential for a man of his position. This forgetfulness hints at a deep incongruity between his outward piety and his true activities. Beneath his cloak, with closed eyes and short gray hair, he conducts abhorrent experiments on both humans and monsters under the authority of the Holy Church, creating chimeras that mysteriously possess the ability to wield divine magic. His role in the story is that of an antagonist of the third major arc, and his motivations remain largely hidden, though they appear tied to his research and the power he can derive from it. He interacts primarily with Babylon, who initially meets him in the church courtyard, and his presence introduces an unsettling layer of corruption within the very institution that is meant to uphold holy law. The character undergoes little visible development in the narrative so far, as his enigmatic nature is preserved to sustain the mystery surrounding his past and his experiments. Notable abilities attributed to him include the creation of chimeric beings and the capacity to bestow or manipulate divine magic, a power that stands in stark contrast to the sacred role he outwardly claims.
