TV-Series
Description
Himari Ishikura is a student in the same high school class as the protagonists, Saito Hojo and Akane Sakuramori. She is immediately recognizable for her gyaru fashion style, which includes long blonde hair often tied in a ponytail and a modified school uniform. Standing at 170 centimeters tall, her flashy and bold appearance is often noted by others. Despite this outward presentation, her true personality is warm, friendly, and kind-hearted. She is described as having a cheerful and approachable attitude, and she dislikes conflict, often acting as a mediator within the class, particularly trying to dissuade her best friend Akane from picking fights with Saito. Her sociable nature gives her superhuman communication skills, allowing her to become friends with almost anyone.

Himari’s current confident demeanor is a result of a difficult past. She was once a shy and reserved girl who was frequently bullied for her natural hair color and her love of reading. A crucial turning point in her life occurred when Akane Sakuramori defended her during a bullying incident. This act of kindness gave Himari the confidence to express herself and led to a deep, lasting friendship. She is fiercely loyal and appreciative towards Akane for this, though their relationship becomes more complicated over time. Her motivations are often driven by her feelings for others. She is a caring person who genuinely looks out for both Akane and Saito, and she harbors a secret, unrequited love for Saito that has existed since before the story began. She is initially unaware that Saito and Akane are secretly married, leading her to confide in Akane and ask for her help in getting closer to Saito, which puts her best friend in a painful dilemma.

In the story, Himari serves as a close friend and confidante to Akane, and a complicating factor in the secret marriage of the main couple. Her role intensifies as her feelings for Saito grow. When she eventually discovers the truth about Saito and Akane living together, her jealousy and romantic desire emerge more directly, creating a love rivalry with her best friend. In her determination to win Saito’s affection, she goes as far as forcibly kissing him. Throughout the narrative, she also struggles with her own family issues, including the death of her mother ten years prior and a strained relationship with her father and stepmother. Saito helps her resolve some of these family problems, which deepens her emotional attachment to him. Over the course of the series, Himari shows significant development, evolving from a supportive but secretly pining friend to an open rival for Saito’s heart, before finally coming to acknowledge that his feelings truly belong to Akane. Her notable ability is her exceptional social intelligence and empathetic nature, which allows her to connect with people easily, even as she navigates her own complex emotions.
