Description
Lubicchi, a young chimney sweep, inhabits a town blanketed in perpetual smoke, severed from the outside. His father, a tailor executed by authorities for sharing tales of stars beyond the haze, leaves a legacy that fuels Lubicchi’s defiance against communal scorn. Diminutive and eccentric, he navigates ostracization with stubborn hope, his movements quick and puppet-like, knees barely bending as he scuttles through soot-stained streets. A bracelet forged by his father—a fragile emblem of their shared belief in the stars—is lost early, only to resurface within Poupelle, a sentient scrap-metal creature.

Bound to a wheelchair, Lubicchi’s ailing mother pleads for conformity, fearing retribution. Yet his alliance with Poupelle sparks rebellion. Together, they unravel the town’s secret: economic isolation enforced by smog conceals a decaying-currency scheme to evade debts. This revelation galvanizes Lubicchi, transforming him from a solitary idealist into a strategic leader. He unites dissenters, challenges tyrannical leaders, and devises a daring explosion to pierce the smoke.

The climactic detonation tears the veil, unveiling the starry sky his father promised. Poupelle’s sacrificial demise returns the bracelet, bridging loss with closure. Their bond, once pragmatic, deepens into kinship, echoing familial ties severed by tragedy. Through defiance, Lubicchi reshapes his community, proving resilience can dismantle oppression, and hope, once kindled, outshines even the deepest shadows.
