Mana Ashida
Description
Mana Ashida is a Japanese actress, singer, and voice actor who began her career as a child performer. Born on June 23, 2004, in Hyogo Prefecture, she joined the Jobby Kids talent agency at the age of three in 2007 and made her acting debut in 2009. While she is widely recognized for her extensive work in live-action television and film from a very young age, earning her acclaim as a leading child actor, she has also built a significant body of work as a voice actor in animated features.
Her voice acting career started with dubbing foreign films for Japanese audiences. One of her earliest roles in this field was providing the Japanese voice for the character Agnes in the 2010 film Despicable Me. This led to further dubbing work, including the role of young Fang Deng in the Japanese release of Aftershock.
Ashida's voice work in original Japanese animation and anime films has grown steadily. In 2012, she voiced the lead character of Annie in the anime film adaptation of the popular Magic Tree House book series. That same year, she also contributed to the Jewelpet franchise, performing the theme song "Zutto Zutto Tomodachi" for the anime series Jewelpet Kira☆Deco! and voicing the character Princess Mana in the film Eiga Jewelpet Sweets Dance Princess. In 2018, she lent her voice to the character Largo in Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us. The following year, in 2019, she took on the leading role of Ruka Azumi in the critically acclaimed animated film Children of the Sea. In 2020, she voiced the character Lubicchi in the film Poupelle of Chimney Town. Her voice acting work continued with the role of Yui in the 2021 film The House of the Lost on the Cape and as the Wolf Queen in the 2022 film Lonely Castle in the Mirror.
Beyond her acting roles, Ashida has also worked as a narrator, most notably for the popular NHK morning drama Manpuku in 2018, for which she became the youngest narrator in the history of the network's serial dramas. Her talent has been recognized with numerous awards, primarily for her on-screen acting, including the Rookie of the Year Award at the 34th Japan Academy Film Prize and the Best Newcomer award at the 54th Blue Ribbon Awards, many of which she received as the youngest-ever winner. In 2025, she is scheduled to voice the lead character in the anime film The Never-Ending Scarlet, directed by Mamoru Hosoda, a role that brought her to the red carpet at the Venice International Film Festival.
