Description
Alice Suzunomiya is a character from the anime and manga series Rock is a Lady's Modesty. She is the younger stepsister of the protagonist, Lilisa Suzunomiya, and a student in the middle school division of the prestigious Oshin Girls' Academy, an all-girls institution that spans from kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Born as the biological daughter of the wealthy Suzunomiya family, Alice experienced the loss of her mother at a young age. Her life changed significantly when her father remarried, bringing a new stepmother, Yuka, and a new stepsister, Lilisa, into the household. Unlike Lilisa, who entered the family through her mother's remarriage only a year prior to the story's start, Alice was raised within the Suzunomiya family's refined environment, making the public performance of a ladylike exterior more natural for her. Despite this, Alice conceals a deep resentment toward her new family members, viewing them as intruders who have invaded her home and disrupted her relationship with her father.

Initially, Alice is openly hostile toward Lilisa, despising her and actively seeking opportunities to expose her as an impostor to drive her and her mother out of the Suzunomiya household. Her personality is characterized as straightforward and honest, to the point of bluntly saying whatever is on her mind, even if it is cruel. She accuses Lilisa of being nothing more than a puppet doll who does whatever her mother tells her to do. However, Alice's animosity is rooted not in genuine malice but in immaturity, jealousy, and the pain of a blended family dynamic. Beneath her ladylike exterior is a child who misses her biological mother and feels threatened by the newcomers. This softer side is also evident in her affection for stray cats, which she carries treats for, despite her sister Lilisa's dislike of the animals.

A pivotal turning point for Alice occurs when she accidentally discovers Lilisa's secret passion for rock music. While following a cat at school, she sees her stepsister playing guitar in the music room, intending to use this as proof to have her expelled. However, Alice is caught off guard when she finds the highly influential Otoha Kurogane with Lilisa, which makes her doubt what she saw. Her suspicions are fully confirmed when she later attends a local town concert with a friend and witnesses Lilisa and Otoha performing as support members for a brass band. Despite her preconceptions that such a performance would be beneath her, she is profoundly impressed by the free-spirited and passionate energy of their rock music, a stark contrast to the polished but self-righteous performance of a professional singer earlier in the concert. The experience completely changes her perspective; she is moved to tears and, after the performance, confronts Lilisa not with anger, but with a newfound respect, asking her how she could burn so brightly on stage.

Following this revelation, Alice undergoes a significant heel–face turn, transforming from an adversary into Lilisa's most ardent secret supporter. She chooses to keep Lilisa's secret from their mother, and for the first time, she calls Yuka mother, asking her about what kind of person she was before joining the family, a question that surprises her stepmother. Alice's admiration for Lilisa grows to the point of near-obsession, with her following Lilisa to band rehearsals and live houses. After being caught by the band's manager, she boldly declares that she came to watch because her sister was being secretive, and she eventually becomes an exclusive staff member for the band, forming close relationships with its other members. She is also the one who contributes to the naming of the band, which becomes Rock Lady.

Alice is not merely a passive observer; she possesses notable abilities of her own. She is an excellent violinist, a skill that reflects her upbringing and gives her a keen and discerning ear for music. Her musical standards are high, and she is quick to criticize performances she finds lacking in depth or authenticity, such as the one by the professional singer Jun Ishiya. This musical sensitivity allows her to genuinely appreciate the high level of musicianship displayed by Lilisa and her bandmates. In a moment of emotional connection, she even performs a violin session alongside Lilisa's guitar playing. Her role evolves from a primary antagonist to one of the few people who knows both of Lilisa's secrets: her commoner origins and her band activities. In this way, Alice becomes a trusted confidante and a crucial part of the world Lilisa is building, representing the acceptance and genuine family bond that Lilisa had been missing.
