Description
Asako Yamagishi is a sixteen-year-old second-year student at Kibougayama High School and a classmate of Yoshiki Tsujinaka and Hikaru Indou. Born on December 5, she stands at 170 centimeters tall, making her noticeably tall for a high school girl, and she is a member of the school's women's volleyball team. She has a childhood friend named Yuuki Tadokoro, whose parents are close with Asako's own family, and the two have been close since they were very young, calling each other by the nicknames A-chan and Yuu-chan. Her hair is extremely curly, requiring her to put in effort every morning to straighten it. A distinctive quirk of her dialogue is the frequent inclusion of emoji, which reflects her lively and expressive communication style.
Asako is characterized by a cheerful, energetic, and intelligent personality. Her physical abilities are quite outstanding, as she can overwhelmingly beat boys of her own age in arm wrestling competitions. She is a caring individual who is deeply concerned about the well-being of her friends and the people around her, often feeling anxious about the possibility of harm coming to them and expressing a desire to protect those she cares about.
Since childhood, Asako has possessed a unique spiritual ability that has been passed down through her family for generations, allowing her to hear supernatural phenomena that ordinary people cannot perceive. She has used this ability to sense unclean presences attached to people and the spirits around them, and she has saved her childhood friend Yuuki on several occasions, either knowingly or unknowingly. While she generally tries not to become too involved with these spiritual entities, she has also had experiences where she believes she was helped by them, leading her to conclude that not all such beings are bad and that communicating with them should not be considered strange.
This ability makes her one of the first people, after Yoshiki, to notice that something is profoundly wrong with Hikaru after he returns from his disappearance. She senses that he is possessed by a dangerous ghost, and when she looks at his condition, she is attacked, resulting in the loss of the ability in one of her ears. Despite this attack, she confronts Hikaru directly, asking who he really is. Upon learning the truth that the human Hikaru is already dead, she weeps, though she does not hate the entity that now wears his face. However, she confesses to Yoshiki that she is still afraid of it and cannot be friends with it in the same way she was with the original Hikaru. She also feels a sense of regret and sorrow for Yoshiki, who noticed Hikaru's condition six months before she did and kept the burden to himself.
