Nadeshiko Yamato is a young samurai and a childhood friend of Yaiba Kurogane. She first met Yaiba six years before the main story in a jungle, where he helped her when she was attacked by an animal. After that encounter, she fell in love with him and made a promise to marry him. Nadeshiko is a determined and skilled fighter, known for her acrobatic combat style. She initially wields a bamboo naginata, later adopting a real naginata as she joins Yaiba’s group.

Her motivation stems from the childhood promise and a desire to be by Yaiba’s side. In the 2025 anime adaptation, her role is significantly expanded from the original manga, where she appeared in only a single chapter. She first arrives at the Mine dojo challenging Yaiba due to a misunderstanding over their old promise, but the conflict is resolved peacefully. She later becomes a traveling companion, helping in the quest for the Dragon God Orbs. Her family is revealed to be in possession of a map to the Dragon God Orb, which plays a key role in the story.

Nadeshiko’s relationship with Yaiba is central to her character, built on mutual history and her unwavering loyalty. She also interacts with Sayaka Mine, though the dynamic is not fully explored. Over the course of the anime, she develops from a briefly seen romantic interest into a capable ally who trains alongside Yaiba and his friends. Her notable abilities include precise and agile handling of the naginata, along with acrobatic maneuvers that make her a formidable fighter in close combat.
